I plan to try that tomorrow but I also suspect the fog light pin on the US part will do nothing. I doubt is has both red and white LED's. The hardest part will be figuring out how to wire up the tail light 12V to the fog light pin of the EU part especially if the existing harness does not have...

The inner 9 LED's light up red when and the outer LED's are white. I haven't looked at the plug yet but I assume it will be the same as yours and missing one female connector which would be for the red LED's.
