I hate to say it but this is very much a domestic versus import car thing. Chevy fans (camaro, corvette) would take a traditional manual over a modern DCT if given a choice between the two. They see it as "euro" or "asian"
I like rowing my own gears as much as any enthusiast but to me most of...
Agreed. It sounds like they are talking about Toyota contributing to the design of the car that BMW will build from this shared platform. or at least let's hope. That may be just a render but I don't doubt combining the BMW corporate look with the Calty design would turn it into a Frankenstein...
All in the name of fuel efficiency really. Luckily Toyota has a lot of fuel efficient cars which should balance out their fleet averages. Hopefully they can still have a few gas guzzlers (though I doubt it would be that bad). I just can't imagine they would do this to the Supra but who knows.
Even the new mustang is going to get a 10spd auto rumors are saying. It helps with fuel economy but does nothing for performance. I'll be disappointed if we dont see a modern DCT in this car. It needs to be built forward thinking.
Interesting if that happens because the Z sales are in the toilet.
While the price is in a different league there are similarities here.... not offering the Supra in a V6 would disappoint a lot of fans but Toyota has to face the same reality of selling it in markets where they are taxed like...
I think it needs to be a trend setter too. Go big and bold on the styling and keep the concept styling AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! There's so much good competition now in the segment where the car will compete so you have to stand out and offer up something that all the others don't. And it won't be...
It is sad how low volume sports cars have gotten in the last few decades and makes me wonder how many sales they would really need to offer a 3 tier line up. It's hard to compare to Ferrari, Porsche or even the GT-R. Those cars are in a different class than what Toyota should be aiming to do...
I really dont think it would have 3x the costs even with 3 models to choose from. The majority of the R&D comes from engineering the platform/chassis itself. all of the hard points, body panels, sheet metal etc would be the same. there's no different stamping processes or different tooling...
I think that's why the case for a multi-engine/trim Supra makes sense. Maintaining a niche car that will be optioned up to 70K is going to be more of a money pit. If they can create more volume in the big white space between the Scion and what we are all expecting (let's say a 65-70K MKV), they...
It's interesting that the 86 concepts went from more mild to more extreme. It's usually the other way around as they get less concept-like and more like a production car.
Sorry if this is old news for all you 86 veterans but did all 3 concepts build off of the final platform used for the FR-S?
Not just the company name but many people including myself will not consider a 2 seater only. Considering they only sold 11-12k markIV Supras in the US ('93-'98) and the corvette sold about 15K in 2013 and i think more than double that this year. Obviously being a domestic car it's a different...
I think that is beautiful actually. I don get the hate on the convertible, u know it will be more popular than a T-Top that's why they are way more popularly offered these days.
And cars like Cayman and M3 easily get spec'd up to $70-80k. Since it's a Toyota (good thing) the Supra won't be like that. My guess is $59k and outperforms the BMW M4.
