Many of the videos of people pulling their old oilpumps apart shows that no internals were broken and all appears to be functioning as it should, I think maybe one person who had their oilpump replaced had an oil pressure warning with a check engine light. There was another thread (can't...
Ahhh... ok, so the system dynamically adjusts the pressure all the time and it wasn't anymore, because of the failure, basically defaulting to a high pressure state. Ok makes me feel better. Thanks for the explanation.
AFAIK, the pump is designed to fail to high pressure. The system is PID controlled. Which, btw makes it a joy (in a good way) in tuning. I think that "Found that adjust max oil pressure test fails" means the PID system was no longer effective in dynamic pressure changes because of the failed...
I just went thru the oilpump issue with my 2020, there's a thread on that, but wanted to start a new one and get some feedback on what the dealer wrote on the paper work.
I have no idea when the oilpump issue started. When I pulled the car out of winter storage about 3 days later I get a low...
And final update..... Got my car back today, all fixed up with the new oilpump. Two weeks and 2 days total. All done under warranty. Work done by the dealers BMW shop.
I did the oil level check when I got home from work, about 45 minute drive, worked perfect.
I was worried about maybe losing...
...in two weeks after it was announced.
I'm sure your case will be different. Special. Unique. One of a kind even.
lol jk I'm sure your oilpump will be ready in two weeks or my name isn't Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the North, general of the Felix Legions, loyal...
Ya I'm going to just use the OEM lug bolts. Soon as I get my car back I'll make an appointment to get the wheels installed. Still waiting for the oilpump to be replaced, it's been 2 weeks now.
Sorry for being away from this damn thread for so long, I missed a lot.
The parts are all covered in great detail in my video, I show bags, quantities, and part #s for everything, but I'll help you out here.
You are going to leave the suspension in the car as you mentioned, but leave the struts...
Another update. The dealer got the oilpump in but Toyota didn't have the bolts needed. This dealer has a bunch of dealerships and a BMW dealership is one of them. So they called their BMW dealer and they were able to get the correct parts/bolts.
Then while talking to the BMW tech they decided...
...just have to decide which way I want to go, stay with the OEM lug bolts or go studs and lug nuts.
My Supra is still in the shop getting the oilpump replaced under warranty (I have the 2020), so gives me some time to think about my options.
This forum never lets me down, you guys are the...
An well-designed heat exchanger will improve your IATs, eg PWR. Unfortunately, most of the aftermarket heat exchangers are junk that add weight and massively increase pressure, ie decrease flow, in the low temp system. From my testing, the PWR one is probably the only one worth buying. There may...
...point issue a recall or extend the pump’s warranty.
All that said, I completely understand why others may want to proactively replace their oilpump. I am grateful to @Faye and @kern417 for their efforts to find out as much as possible (and of course in Faye’s case, for the awesome DIY that...
