It looks beautiful to me! And I agree with the comment that the camo somewhat obscured how long it appears to be... even though it has a much shorter wheelbase than the previous generation 2+2.
Regarding the equivalent tuneability of the old 2JZ versus the new Alpha engine, I'd say if in *stock* form they at least match 700whp holding capability then they'll be in the ballpark.
Someone a few pages back mentioned that Tada has been testing a 700hp (whp?) MKV which I assume isn't meant...
I’m fine with notchy and slightly noisy if it’s at the level of a V160 or Tremec Magnum.
I wouldn't even particularly mind the equivalent *feel* of an Aisin AR-5 or R154 Tripod if that’s all they could muster but I think *any* modern manual transmission for cars is way beyond any of the feel...
^^ Hey, the old stuff is still great even by today's standards :) Those GTE VVT-i heads with modern twin scroll turbos or quick spool valves and a good modern aftermarket ECU and tune are mighty impressive.
But I am eager to see what Toyota and Yamaha did with the B58 engine in standard and...
$120k from some dealers wishing to mark up that high I can see. But for most dealers even with the low allocation and some markup I’d be surprised to see it go that high.
I’ve got nothing to go on but my own perception of what I expect but much as it would still hurt I can see the Alpha...
Hmm... but if they wait more than 1-2 years after the first model year to release the low volume GRMN/TRD/Alpha cars then I can see that being a problem. It's one thing to not release it first thing but given that the A90 will probably have a 10 year production run in current form, why would...
As a teaser, not bad. Frustrating for the enthusiast of course but aesthetically not bad.
The one major criticism I have for it isn’t the engine note (though like everyone I want to hear more anyway) but that the “Supra Is Back” text was a pretty standard overlay font and not fitting for this...
^^ This. The MKV and Z4 were developed at the same time from scratch. There was no pre-existing platform that BMW just gave them off the shelf. Several random suspension and boring electrical parts from the bin yes. An entire inline-six turbo engine architecture as a starting point yes.
But...
And it was a photo leaked much earlier in the development cycle so it’s quite old news now.
The only point is that the co-developed chassis clearly is designed for a manual option as the picture shows.
What Toyota has decided to do with it as a possible offering on the MKV line we’ll know in a...
I can’t get the permalink to copy correctly from my phone but if you follow this link to another older thread on the forums you’ll see pictures of an MKV or Z4 prototype with a manual transmission...
You know... I don’t know about other SC owners but personally I never sought validation from the MKIV crowd for owning one with an MKIV TT engine dropped in. It’s NOT an A80 after all and I have never assumed or claimed that it was. They’re obviously not the same cars.
However I’ve done my...
^^ You're on to something with the current Mustang variant analogy. Ford finally figured out their formula by 2012 and by the 2015 redesign are doing exactly this. I think for the Supra it will be more like a throwback to the many variants the JDM MKIII's only with much less volume but I think...
^^ Yes. And I know you know Tetsuya Tada has gone on record before in the last two years more than once to state that the MKV development began first as a co-development of the underpinning platform and then after they developed it at first normally and got initial feedback Tada shifted into...
Funny... just yesterday a friend took me for a ride in his bone stock 2017 BMW M2 6-speed manual and I found it to be the complete opposite of a "soulless" experience.
That being said, BMW's idea of a real sports machine (their M line) and Toyota's are different and I expect Toyota's MKV to be...
Does anyone know the current reliable torque holding record of the BMW GS6-45BZ 6-speed manual transmission? Since could be the likely candidate for the MKV's top of the range manual gearbox... if it's offered.
^^ This is true, TRD did offer this for the TC. It bumped the naturally aspirated 160hp 2.4L four cylinder from the Camry up to 200hp. For the time (2004+) in a 2900lb coupe (manual) that wasn't too bad.
OP, currently we'll have to wait at the very least until January 14th or so for Toyota to...
^^ I agree with twntrbo03'. My friends who do have a single MKIV in their garages probably aren't looking to sell them or at least at no time in the foreseeable future. Of the friends I know who have more than one MKIV, they're probably open to selling at least one them eventually but the are...
^^ Thank you for the update, A70! Disappointing to hear that Toyota USA hasn't really tackled this yet (which might also suggest they have no strategy to even attempt to discourage dealer price gouging?)
But more cars available for NA is a good plus indeed! Now the question will be: of which...
I hope this will be acceptable to post but it seems appropriate since it came out only days after Demuro's own review ;)
Hilarious... and definitely NSFW.
