I remember the FT-HS very well from the car magazines of the time and I recall strongly not liking its looks compared to the Supra MKIV which was still only recently deceased by a mere 5 years in 2007. The idea of no manual trans and a Prius-like V6 hybrid powertrain with no turbocharging...
For the supposedly $40k(ish) 2.0L Supra to be competitive in the U.S. and allow for the turbocharged 230-250hp(ish) GR86 6-speed M/T @ $27k-$30k to shine as well... that 2.0L Supra will need a bump to 275-280hp and a manual option as well.
The 197hp 2.0L used in the German Z4 6-speed manual...
Aside, A70TTR... on your cars list it says you now have a Toyota Crown Athlete. I don't want to derail this thread topic but briefly, how do you like that car?
^^ Ideally I’d really like the Toyota and Lexus divisions to cooperate more and share platforms, technologies and engine architectures the way they did in the 1990’s.
If the Mazda RWD architecture and inline-six engines let Akio Toyoda make yet another series of special cars that Toyota and...

The article claims Mazda’s aim is to make this engine fit into as many vehicles as possible with this compact exhaust manifold.
A turbo would be nice while they’re at it.
There’s also mention of an 8-speed...
So this could this mean just a carryover FA20 non-turbo then? Or a revised older WRX FA20T?
As long as it’s got a turbo I don’t care what its displacement is. And for the lower tax brackets in some regions it’ll be a good thing if it’s no larger than 2.0L. It always seemed an odd choice to...
^^ The MKIV Supra Turbo 6-speed M/T is definitely the combination (original or built) that everyone wants and which is what that car has always been known for.
ATFSpeed (known as just "ATF") is famous for building up GM automatics, Powerglides and the A340E 4-speed that make in the MKIV Turbo...
^^ This reminds me of the first time I saw my good friend's W460 G-Wagen with the body removed from the frame for it full restoration.
I'm excited to see more progress! At the same time I know all too well from experience how long these projects take ;)
^^ This is sad if it's really the case. At the end of the day it is a substantial number of potential buyers who look at this car and say to themselves, "We know you CAN make a manual edition.... it's just that you refuse to." Even with BMW in that mix there are still ways to make it happen...
If I had $170k to spend on one of these I would fully expect dog-boxy noises! XD That would be one of the coolest key selling points of this model IMO.
I know... Lexus is not going to sell a production halo super coupe with sequential dog box transmission but... seriously... for that amount of...
You know... this TRD wing is definitely period 90's and probably wouldn't be my first choice but it's definitely not a generic metal boy racer wing. The MKIV already looks so good in stock form it makes styling changes like these very subjective. Still, apparently it was an official TRD kit...
I still want to see a manual option for the Supra (3.0L preferably) but a 250hp *turbo* manual & auto GR86 is very, very welcome!
It definitely makes a lot more sense to keep the Supra as an I6 to better differentiate it from its little brother in both specs and price point (transmission types...
Apologies, I stand corrected for the introductory model year. However the price did increase significantly for 1994, 1995 and 1996 (which was the only year the Turbo went automatic-only due to OBD2 emission certification delays for the Getrag 6-speed).
The price only dropped -$10k from around...
At this point if all the major markets save Japan are foregoing the 2.0L turbo version I guess all we can hope for is that Toyota more or less copies the approach EAG has had to giving the Supra 3.0L a manual and does it officially.
I can't see any other reason why the 2.0L would be much of a...
