From what I see in that pic, is the spoiler fixed? One of the coolest things about the concept FT-1 was the retractable spoiler. I like the fact that it will have a spoiler...just hope it doesn’t rice the car out too much with a fixed type spoiler.
The more I think about this halo car....the more I really hope the rumors are true of a BMW bottom-end, but with a Toyota (Yamaha) head. Just give us something that makes the FT-1 unique and not an exact 100% replica (powertrain-wise) to some other car. Oh and a 6spd manual wouldn’t hurt...
I was specifically referring to the North American offerings. Afterall, wasn’t Lexus made specifically for the North American market?
Are the Lexus cars I listed sharing any platforms with Toyota cars offered in North America?
Really? What about the: IS, GS, RC, LC, LS, and most recently the GX.
The only remaining shared platforms with Toyota branded cars are ES, RX, and LX....no?
The NX (if im not mistaken) is shared platform with the IS not the RAV4.
Keywords me saying “almost eliminated”.
Toyota has been trying very hard to remove the “its just a Toyota with leather seats” perception people have of Lexus.
It’s like the MKIV Supra and the SC300. Why didn’t Lexus directly offer a “out of the box” GTE motor with their SC300? It was a game of financial balance and co-existence of brands. “Make a $55k MKIV Supra with 320hp and a $55k 215hp luxury-filled SC300 from the same chassis, and we won’t be...
I am doubtful of a true MKIV Supra successor, however, I feel like Toyota won’t completely let us down with a halo car. Sure they delivered an underpowered Frankenstein GT-86, but if you think about it....what did you expect out of a $26k entry level sports car? I mean, the AE86 was an...
I’m still staying positive....there has to be more to this. All this info so far has been from unofficial “reputable” sources. If the FT-1 will truly have the above specs, it will not be labeled a Supra....i think Toyota knows that too. At this point, let’s hope we can squeeze some crazy...
So then tell me Toyota, why on earth would I want to spend $60k on your version of the $60k BMW???? I still believe that there will be more to this new “halo” car. If not, Toyota is dead to me...
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...pretty sure Toyota will name it “GT-1”.
You all heard it from me first...
GT-86 was a FT-86 as concept, so following that naming schema, the FT-1 will be the GT-1. Now, whether they add the “Supra” as the trim level (GT-1 Supra), that I can’t make...
Does anyone have any information on other specs of the car yet? Differential type? Brake calipers? etc...
I would love to see the torque vectoring diff from the RC-F in this new car....but....I can only hope at this point.
Good point...I really don’t care too much for the branding (i.e., Supra, GR, etc...), so that won’t be a factor that will disappoint me. However, if Toyota is planning to build a halo car for $60k (top tier), it better be making Vette killing power or outperforming a Vette....at least that. If...
This cannot be true....I hope it's not true. I mean, why would anyone buy a 4cyl Turbo 192hp "Supra" for $50k when the little sister the 100% JDM GT-86 makes 205hp and costs $26k??? Either this article is another BS article....or Toyota has lost it's marbles.
Also, being a 2-seater might hint...
How does everyone feel about the FT-1 potentially having a straight six sitting slanted like the rest of the BMW's?
How will that do with the tuner scene considering the not-so-easy mounting of an aftermarket turbo on most BMW straight sixes?
From a business competitor standpoint, i can see Nissan/Mitsubishi renewing the 3000GT trademark here in the states just to keep it away from Toyota. I would love to see a Toyota TRD 3000GT reborn. Who knows right? Things in auto industry are changing so much! I still think there will be a...
