Accounting: hey, we ran the numbers and manual doesn't look profitable
Safety R&D/compliance: hey, this car has to have TSS/AEB

I think Toyota should try to facilitate the advertising side more, but without further details its hard to tell. anymore it's become clear to me that things in life are seldom due to a single reason and instead are mostly an amalgam of things.
it's really about Toyota being obsessed with the TSS thing, which could easily be forgone especially since a large portion of the car is BMW tech and they have the manual.
but they are obsessed with it in some shape or form and didn't want to pay to adapt it to bmw systems for 20% of buyers...
it's definitely a money thing; the marketing guys said Toyota wanted a certain amount of money, and certain companies were not willing to pay that amount.
it may be both though... like hey, wanna mod our cars from stock configuration, then pay this or don't allow them to be modified.
totally a...
There are going to continue to be innovations in the field and they may trickle down into other vehicles. One of the huge issues is not that it's impossible (nothing of the sort); it's justifying the systems on other transmissions/platforms and in the case of the Supra it was $500m for an...
that's an N/A figure and they don't mention any cam upgrades; they do mention building it to hold double that power, which I would expect given the sleeves etc. for that increase in stroke, it also sounds like they went super conservative with the tune too.
the 2URGSE is actually a great mod...
The latest gen Viper is definitely a thing of beauty as well as an absolute destroyer on the track. Why they don't outsell everything else in that class is a total mystery to me.
Not just that. You have to be able to immediately move the car if you are stuck in an intersection or other less than ideal position. The list goes on...
Yes, it appears they do exist but they stall the car making it a dangerous system. It also opens up the door for lawsuits.
In order to be viable, the system needs to be able to engage the clutch and change gears.
Guff, as often the case, is correct in the entirety of what he said for reason as well as PD's involvement.
Turn 10 just didn't care much about adding Toyota to the game.
so, at this point there are exactly 4 years to make all cars compatible with AEB. Toyota made TSS standard in 2016 and apparently make AEB standard at the end of 2017.
I'd say nearly all auto makers will have automatic only lineups by 2020 (at the latest) unless they spend a ton of money to...
