It is worth to mention that they could ONLY update the whole car software including DME so any TUNE will be gone. The update we do is just a headunit firmware so no affect on tunes or any other modifications.

Theoretically it is possible with Windows VM but it's just safer to use native Windows or Bootcamp with Windows installed.

That's correct. Not really other benefits than Fullscreen CarPlay so update not really required.

Unfortunately Toyota doesn't show release notes. Fullscreen is the main feature that we got with the newest release.

Yes, no problem with reflashing headunit that had CarPlay previously activated.

USB update is just a multimedia update for bluetooth connectivity etc. We're doing full firmware upgrade for iDrive. Feel free to ask for discount codes ;)

Yes, we can still program headunit even though it's not accessible via bimmercode.
