I'm not familiar with the B58 motor but I think that is the system that controls different lift for the cams. Do you think you can turn your car on, idle it until the Rev go down, and see if it makes the same tick noise close to your exhaust?

Its hard to tell, I tried looking around and it sounds like inside the engine. The tick progressively gets less & less noisy and then stops.
