Your oilpump is for sure the culprit. As others have stated they have since upgraded the oilpump and Toyota even adjusted the part number for it. Apparently BMW made an underground recall for it.
For sure get it fixed while you still have warranty.
Did you have consumption issues on...
I am having the same issue right now. My car is at the dealership awaiting word from Toyota and was told today that it will probably be there for more than a week. I am also experiencing parking brake malfunction error while I was driving over the weekend. Very disappointing right now car is. I...
...to me that they were unable to conclude the oil consumption test as the oil measurement system is failing. So they have opted to replace the oilpump and then have me redo the consumption test yet again.
Funny thing is the oil measurement system doesn't even show precise oil levels instead...
This is typically indicative of the oilpump failing unfortunately. B58's have plastic internals that fail in the oilpump which cause issues with the oil level measuring. It's expected to become a recall to the few at BMW that I've talked to about this.
UPDATE: Looks like my oilpump is failing according to Toyota. Coincidentally I got a low oil light saying to add 2 quarts after driving for 1300miles right before I brought it in.
Toyota is saying that they might need to replace the oilpump before they can complete the oil consumption test...
So here is a great visual showing what I mean that water and oil temps influence each other. It's not really summer here yet in the North East but this session was 85* and you can clearly see oil and water temps following the same trend.
...closely. I expect we eventually will see some adapter plates to Separate into a air cooler/ radiator but this could also require a bigger oilpump so probably why you do not see them as that is a much bigger project. Has not really been an issue for the rest of the year when the starting air...
Confused. Meth is an additive. Port injection is a technique to add an additive. Your statement is like saying you want to replace ice cream with an SUV. It's possible to deliver meth through port injection as opposed to through the charge pipe. It's possible to add more fuel or nitro...
Well, they are offering me a buyback or replacement. I'm requesting a new engine, hoping they just go with that option and call it even.
I'd rather them not do the block replacement due to the fact I'm waiting on Toyota to acquire the parts to even perform the job, that and a seal. The rest of...
This was pretty hard to read, but yes. Swapping and engine or engine R&R is much MUCH easier than rebuilding an engine. You just take the old one you and put the new one in. There's nothing to it.
Rebuilding an engine, yeah, that's hard.
Because to do a rebuild well as opposed to pull an engine apart and put it back together again and it runs is way more involved than an engine swap. An engine swap is just component replacement same as a simple water pump or alternator replacement, pull component off bolt component on but on a...
Since the forums are ever more active and new people are getting their Supra's I thought I'd make this thread a simple yet very informative way to start out modding your Supra and lessen the load on questions asked so frequently yet answered so simply.
The thread will be separated into the ECU...
Hello
before 3 days i had a long ride in my supra
after that i stopped for few mins to grab some cofee and turned on sports mode, as soon i turned sports mode my exhaust started smoking white/grey clouds for around 30 sec and after turning sports mode off it went away, i checked oil level it...
Glad you did! Crossing my fingers because I haven’t broken that yet… ?. Hope you’re tracking her now that it’s your tracking season up there. Mine is now just carting me to my short drive to work when not using the MX5, until next Oct.
Looks like it’s ~$500 bucks @MisterSkiz, not too bad...
My 2020 wouldn't read oil and had oil pressure issues. Subframe drops to get to oilpump. 30 day wait just for new torque to yield sub frame bolts. All in all a huge huge headache at around 20k km. Not sure if the replacement oilpump was an updated version or not but I ended up trading for a...
This☝. If there’s something to break, I’ll eventually get there. I mainly track her, in Florida heat at Sebring. Which is not the smoothest track to say the least. I do love the car and that track though. I’m not on any of the VW GTi or MX5 forums because we daily those car. So I’m not worried...
They replaced mine because I couldn’t measure oil level properly. The sensor was also broken, so I had extensive work done just to get that working again. Then still was burning 2quarts every 1000miles.
Eventually they opted to replace the entire long block.
Glad I sold it.
Here is my feedback after being on car forums for almost 25 years - nobody comes on the sites to say how great their oilpump is working and how they are having no problems with it - most of the sites are filled with folks looking to complain for find solutions for outlier problems.
I say keep...
