I am! Fucking love the hell outta my wife. She’s my pit crew when I compete in races, will double duty my car with me in casual motorsports events like drift days, and doesn’t lose her shit when I spend retarded amounts of money on my cars. A couple months ago I raced a S550 Mustang GT coming up...
My thing is if the car is gonna be 3300lbs+ then it BETTER have good power, if not what's the point? And yeah you are absolutely right the 370z just always fell short even with FBO and a tune where as the Supra is great.
Since you brought the 86 into the conversation, I'm gonna controversially...
I might be the outlier but I agree with OP. Stock power is tons of fun, especially if the suspension and aero hasn't been touched because let's be real, stock power is TOO much for stock chassis.
My favorite thing to do is make my wife be DD then have her take me on joyrides after a night out...

I have a 23 MT with 15000 miles on it, I've owned it since 8000 miles.
I've never had any issue with gear grind, not once. Either before or after I did the CDV delete (around 11,000 miles). And yup I drove the piss out of it before I did the CDV delete with multiple redline shifts at WOT...
I have a huge ass DO88 intercooler on my Rx7. It's a beautiful piece and works well at keeping my IATs in check even here in the Texas heat. Can't imagine you could go wrong with a DO88 manifold.
Of course auto is typically faster, because it takes one more element out of the hands of the driver (literally) and puts that responsibility onto a computer. Ever money shift mid lap and blow an engine? I had a student do just that and it was a very humbling moment for the guy.
BUT again, why...
