  1. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

More likely 2028 since they've had to plan to meet multiple new regulations in most global markets by that year including within Japan. Unless they plan to just not sell a GR86 at all for a couple of years after the current one ends production. The current model is no longer available in EU...
  2. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

On this specific point he is speculating wildly off from a lot of articles in the last couple of years that detail Toyota's commitment to continuing to offer manual transmissions amidst electrification. The Celica, MR2 and Supra are all GR division cars and the G20E engine was designed from the...
  3. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

^^ With the claim that it will be the "entry model for the GR performance brand" I have questions about where the 3rd gen GR86 will fall into place in the lineup... and what the least expensive manual transmission Celica with AWD will cost. Hopefully a manual option won't be limited to the top...
  4. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

We know next to nothing about the 3rd gen GR86 so far other than that it'll likely use one of Toyota's G-series I-3 or I-4 engines and have some mild hybrid system available-- hopefully still retaining a manual transmission option. And that the current reworked platform hailing from 2012 is...
  5. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

2030-2032...? The current model is only a reworking of the already old 2012 platform as a means to extend its life, keep the model on sale a bit longer (from the outgoing 2021 GT86) and reasonably improve it before a completely new platform needs to be introduced to comply with new crash safety...
  6. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

I entirely agree! And in addition to that a 3rd gen GR86 Cup series, a Supra MKVI Cup series and a Celica Cup series. And if they ever do an Altezza RS200 successor (I wish) then have a series for that too.

  8. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

Translates as: "Working on development today 🚗 We're cooking up something crazy again 🤫 The GR team members are absolute maniacs—seriously 🤣" Hmm.
  9. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

Hard to say from just that angle but it's nice to see another camo'd version out testing. I don't see Toyota or Subaru investing much more substantially in the current generation other than minor tweaks. The current engine and chassis are increasingly coming up against new emission requirements...

It is disappointing that it'll take so long, yes. I've long thought that the reason for this is partly because they really want to both avoid the twitchy snap lift oversteer characteristics of the SW20 Turbo generation (which you could get away with in the 90's but maybe not today in an...
  12. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

The R35 GTR series existing and being appreciated isn't something I'd want the world to have been without. I am glad they made it. But at the same time I clearly remember when the R34 model was first teased and announced, going to Nissan's Japanese website to see everything I could about it...
  13. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

It is probably another test mule but it's *much* further along to what a final car may be than the previous GR Yaris based mules. The headlights and tail lights are definitely going to change by the time a near production prototype shows up.

  15. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

Current battery tech is the first big factor. The second biggest factor is the design philosophy. One is a current technology limitation while the other comes down to sum of all choices the designers make that determines the character a vehicle has as a driving machine (or the opposite of...
  16. Toyota Teases GR Line Up: Supra MK6, Celica MK8, MR2 MK4, 86 MK3 and GR GT! (Bonus: Lexus LFA)

The prototype version's slightly lower hood line, larger rear tires and overall tweaked body lines make it look better than the concept car version IMO. It looks great. If they ditch the yoke steering wheel and give it a proper driver oriented interior it'll be closer to the mark inside as...

Not much new on the 3rd gen GR86 but I missed these back in April of this year. What stands out as newly relevant IMO (which hasn't been talked about much yet as far as I am aware): --The Mazda collaboration may be for a planned 4th gen car rather than for the upcoming 3rd gen. This is...
