  1. What will the FT-1 be called? Supra trademark revived by Toyota!

What do these trademark filings really mean? They don't seem to have any relation to when we can actually expect a production vehicle. A filing in the US in early 2014 then dead silence for over 2 years, not even a concept. Then they file in Europe. Seems so random.
  2. Toyota FT-1 concept & A90 Supra design dissected

Yet they are selling like hotcakes now. Like the Mustang, people will bitch and complain but at the end of the day they will buy it anyway if it looks good and performs.
  3. Reviving the Supra - does Toyota really benefit?

I think there are rumors that Lincoln will build a RWD sports coupe on the new Mustang's platform. But were talking about Ford and even if Lincoln builds it that will not be a flagship car
  4. Reviving the Supra - does Toyota really benefit?

Oh you can bet that Toyota will steal whatever show that the Supra Concept or production model debuts. Not only would it represent the return of a legendary model, but also the Toyota brand's return to sports cars (which is something everyone was hoping would happen with the 86, but they...
  5. Interviews with Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada

My bet is the sub 86 and Supra is all we see after 2017. I just don't think there is enough market to chop it up between those 3. The entry level sports car market is a risky proposition IMO.
  6. The Engine Speculation Thread

It is for now. I predict in 10 years the NA V8 will be reserved only for the high performance Mustangs. There is already a lot of adoption in their trucks of the TT 3.5L V6 which could eventually find its way to the sports car. Although GM seems to have no intentions of moving off of it. The...
  7. Will FT-1 concept follow the FT-86 timeline?

Coming from a lot of domestic cars I will say they usually use the volume cars, the company's cash cows, to innovate and it trickles down into more niche sports cars. Of course more performance focused stuff like big displacement engines are a different story. But take Ford for example...
  8. The Engine Speculation Thread

I think it's just the big bad cross plane V8 they want and the accompanying sound. I started reading up on the GT350 and even then I see a lot of comments from mustang guys complaining about the flat plane engine sounding too "euro". That's the reaction before they see it redlines past 8k ...
  9. News: BMW FT1 Supra Project Moves Into Concept Stage

BMW is the one that issued the statement saying it was going into concept stage so I don't think they are speaking for Toyota necessarily.
  10. Toyota Press Release: FT-1 Concept Coming to Gran Turismo 6 on January 14

Legendary as it is, I'd like to think Toyota can do even better than the 2JZ for this car.
  11. The Pricing Thread + Potential US Tariffs Impact

I gotta give it up to GM, they are staying the course with big displacement V8s and indicated they won't be putting a 4 cylinder in the Camaro even with the Ecoboost Mustang out there. Hopefully they don't find screw themselves when the CAFE standards get even stricter in a few years while the...
  12. Production-Spec Acura NSX to Debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January

Great... What has been seen can't be unseen! :confused1:
  13. Red Toyota FT-1 Concept at Various Auto Shows & Events

Hadn't seen this one before.
  14. The Pricing Thread + Potential US Tariffs Impact

Pump yo brakes! :) Let's work on getting an actual MKV model to market first. We're lucky if we see it return at all and I don't think we're ever gonna see them move the car into midengine supercar territory. Plus that would put it into a completely different price territory. I want (and...
  15. Reviving the Supra - does Toyota really benefit?

The NSX will help Acura's image regardless of whether they make any money from it. I remember back in the day when they had the NSX and Integra, everyone viewed the brand differently than they do now. It was this exciting quasi-luxury yet sporty brand. I bet that helped them sell plenty of...
  16. Infiniti Q60 to Feature Turbo V6 with 400 horspower, more to come

That is beautiful! Too bad just a concept. I'm sure the production Q60 will be way watered down. The Q50 isn't much to look at IMO.
  17. Will FT-1 concept follow the FT-86 timeline?

Yea they'll just keep offering up more turbo 4 cars in place of V8's and other NA engines like what is happening with the M3/M4 and the Mustang (tho that V8 still exists, for now). The real problem now isn't gas prices but the strict CAFE standards that have all the sports cars in a pinch.
  18. 3rd gen G29 BMW Z4 (2019-202X)

On a different note, I think these two renderings look way better.
  19. Possible Debut at Tokyo?

Technically they did show a second FT-1 concept? What I'd like to see is an official Supra concept based off of the actual platform to give us an idea of the real life dimensions, drivetrain and engine that we'll see in production.
