I don't think we ever weighed it because we didn't have another solution, we had to have it on the car.
It was roughly the same weight as any other compressor its size. I don't remember it being extra heavy or super light.
Final update on compressor issue.
Have completed 3 races at this point (one 3hr and two 8hr races) without issue.
Once the rubber is removed from the front of the compressor it will spin freely.
All 1234yf (refrigerant) has been removed from the system since the issue started on "day one". No...
Rear wheels and tires fit without a problem. Front tires contact the spring perch on the stock absorber to the point where you cant even install the assembly on the vehicle. Will be fitting the MCS 3-way dampers tonight and give the wheels/tires another go.
We (TAPG Motorsports) have a couple sets of Apex EC-7R 18x10.5 ET38 that currently have 295/30-18 Hoosiers mounted. Should be mounting them on the car within the next couple weeks with stock suspension and then some MCS three-way coilovers. Ill try and remember to post some pics of each along...
It is engaged all the time, that’s why it locked up the compressor while it was it was running without refrigerant.
Terrible design flaw if you ask me...
Its not a clutch though, it never disengages. The rubber damper tabs physically sit down into the grooves on the pulley and locks it to the shaft when the nut is installed.
Update: There is a rubber device that is through bolted on the front of the AC compressor pulley. If you remove the nut and pull/pry the rubber out you can re-attach the nut and the pulley will free wheel.
12 second video to show where the rubber lives.
Is there anything currently available to code out the active dampers rather than tricking them with the plug in canceling devices?
Working on a race car that I would love to be able to remove via coding (SRS, forward collision warrning, auto braking, lane control, etc...).
Currently looking...
Sent PM for APEX contact
We don't have a ton of Supra content yet (lots of Toyota 86 stuff) but feel free to check out our Instagram / FB page for continuous updates. @tapgmotorsports / TAPGMotorsports
TAPG Motorsports will be running the endurance kit this year. We received the kit a few months ago but the car was at the cage builder so we have not installed it yet. Still waiting on wheels from APEX also.
Just posting an update...
If you drive with the refrigerant removed from the system you're going to have a bad day. Turns out the AC compressor does not freewheel like a normal clutch style compressor and one (maybe more) modules need to see pressure in the system or else it will go into a...
