Good ole safety regulations.. frequently ruins great concept designs, especially front bumpers and side mirrors. :(
This is why I'm dying to see a next concept version - one that's been designed together with engineers and not just by the design studio. If we get a concept that's had...
But that front end doesn't resemble the FT-1 front at all. Unless they decide to completely abandon the design altogether I would hope that it carries over more of the FT-1 front bumper than that.
Please no Mirai tail lights! I think both head and tail lights are both hideous.
Maybe he didn't want to specifically mention it by the "Supra" name?
A higher class of 86 sounds good to me though. That's a driver's car so if they keep all the fundamental philosophies (lightweight, low CoG, fun even at low speeds) but bump up each of its performance aspects while keeping...
Driver behavior is totally nuts in Asia. There's beeen cases where a driver will hit someone on accident, then make sure he reverses and runs over him again just to make sure he doesn't live to be a witness against the driver.
Sports cars have taken a hit by rising insurance and gas costs for a long time. It'll take more than a year or a few years to reverse that. Plus all the damn hybrids and electric cars are what the kids these days grow up around.
Supposed to be for a long time to come, at least through 2015 I think.
Another reason it's too bad the car wasn't out now - the US dollar is so strong currently. Would have made for a more affordable Supra for Americans.
Lutz spoke and GM smartly listened. Industry needs more mavericks like Lutz.
All car enthusiasts should be required to read Car Guys vs. Bean Counters. Great book by Lutz on the constant behind the scenes struggle between the numbers crunchers and the real car guys at auto companies.
GT350 will beat the Supra on power but Supra will beat GT350 on weight and dynamics. Styling remains to be seen but I think most of us here are gonna say it's the Supra that takes it.
This is going to be an interesting dogfight!
If it weighed mid 3000 pounds it wouldn't be able to get a 500 pound reduction probably. It's only because it's so big and heavy a car to begin with that reducing its size and changing its architecture construction can shave off so much weigh.
At some point down the line I think most cars could end up with some kind of carbon fiber construction. I remember reading recently that Audi and BMW and others formed some kind of group that's targeting a 90% drop in carbon fiber production costs within 6 years. At that point, carbon fiber...
