My guess is bad firmware or mcu. I would contact the seller and see if they can provide updated firmware.

That looks good and the split screen is what you should expect on that size screen. The only thing off is the screen elements are slightly too small which is why the fourth row of icons is cutoff.

That does look off. The icons are the correct size but with the 8" screen you should have a split view like this:

Interesting that it appears stretched. It sounds like the mmi's software may be outdated. Can you post a picture? Also, which software version came with your unit? Side note...the new Android Auto Coolwalk UI, which is still in BETA, definately refines the overall look and feel of AA.

The only advantage of the Bimmertech version is customer support. But most people don't need it.

The responsiveness depends on your phone, not the mmi. It was very sluggish with my old Samsung S7 and now super smooth with my Samsung S21 FE.

Nope. All is working fine. Also, there is a new update available, v3.1.1.5t.mmi.e.

That was a common problem when the mmi's first became popular in late 2019 but that has been fixed in most all current mmi's. And at the end of this video they show it fixed with a software update.

These guys in AU were apparently able figure out how to use the touchscreen with their EVO ID6 mmi: It may be worth reaching to them for more info.

You can keep the cursor anywhere on the screen and just rapidly double toggle the idrive controller left or right to repeat or skip tracks.

Can you post a pic of the mmi's software version screen? I'm curious to see if the software is the same as that used for BMW EVO or NBT.

Bimmertech may have updated the mcu which is the bridge between the car's hardware and the mmi.

The software can likely be modified to display in widescreen by adjusting the dpi setting.
