Sorry for being away from this damn thread for so long, I missed a lot.
The parts are all covered in great detail in my video, I show bags, quantities, and part #s for everything, but I'll help you out here.
You are going to leave the suspension in the car as you mentioned, but leave the struts...
That's fine. You do whatever you think is best for you. My recommendation was not based on forum posts. I searched through dozens of recorded pump failures in TAS, which is Toyota dealership technical assistance. Not every repair makes it to TAS; that is reserved for technicians who need help...
That's a decent assumption, though I'm not 100% sure. While that has been the case in my experience, I searched again and found 2 TAS cases where the pump was bad and threw oil pressure codes, but there was no mention of the oil level measurement in the repair notes. That may have been because...
This is not a recall or TSB on the Toyota side. There is a tech tip on the BMW side that I posted in another thread, but its from Canada (seems to be mostly a cold weather issue?)
And no, not just if it fails - if you have issues measuring your oil level (only reads to 18%) the plastic adjusting...
I am on a mission to find the cutoff. I just posted this in another thread, but I'll repost it here. I just went through every recorded TAS case in the country to see when people are having these jobs done through dealerships, and the newest build date I have found is 11/2020. Tech notes stated...
I would agree with that assumption.
I just went through every recorded TAS case in the country to see when people are having these jobs done through dealerships, and the newest build date I have found is 11/2020. I did not see a single 2022 MY car.
Please, PLEASE message me or respond to this...
From what I've seen it appears to be pretty universal that the Supra ended up with the plastic adjusting ring for a whole model a year and a half later than the BMWs did.
I'm trying to figure out when it the transition happened based on build date. I'm collecting data, so when you get an...
Hell yeah! Thanks so much for the inspiration; I wouldn't have made it without your request and kind words since I had literally no clue what I was doing.
But that's my hope - to help out the community, so at least they can learn along with me! Hopefully my next one goes a lot smoother :))
Well, I finally did this job on my 2021 (build date 07/20).
Not because I was having any issues, but after finding out about the potential problems I couldn't drive without stressing about it
You can see that mine indeed had the plastic adjusting ring, but it is not broken. From what...
Exactly.
Yes, exactly. Sorry I didn't share the whole document, I just wanted to keep the dealership and my friend anonymous since I am pretty sure this isn't supposed to be shared for public consumption. But I just cropped the dealer info out.... we need this to keep our cars on the road...
Oh gosh, thank you so much for the kind words! I honestly wasn't considering it, because I normally make my videos on topics that I truly feel like I have "mastered" so I can speak from experience and share helpful tips.... I will be doing this job for the first time. I'm not even a "Supra...
Sorry to revive a thread from a few months ago, but wanted to follow up since I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. There is a superseded part # for the oil pump. The earlier models featured a plastic adjusting ring. The plastic can break, so even though you still have oil pressure, it isn't near...
It was a prototype with no real VIN, and it now belongs to the Toyota Production Engineering Motorsports Team! There were 2 out there, but I'm pretty sure the other got crushed. Since they do not have real VINs, they could never be truly registered. At least my old loaner is being used! The A91...

The 23. I accidentally committed to too many jobs over the summer and robbed myself of a lot of my 'free time" to get her done :/ Hopefully next year!!

5pm: informal group dinner at Hard Eight BBQ hosted by Toyota!!
