This pic is not a real or fair comparison. Your Supra is closer to the street and further from the camera, which has a fish eye lens exaggerating the depth difference even more so. The Supra is 15ā shorter in length and 2.4ā narrower than the Mustang. This pic makes the Supra look like a Mini...
Current (3) car garage is ā22 Supra 3.0, ā21 Camaro ZL1, and Volvo XC90 (family car). Itās sort of a dream ābudget conscienceā garage.
Since I have 3 my ādreamā garage (not an āunlimitedā budget) would be a 992 911 Turbo S (daily), Ferrari 812 Superfast, and probably a BMW XM50 for the SUV (the...
Well, yeah, I like a lot about the Supra. The 8 or 9 gripes I listed just so happen to directly affect daily drivability, so I figured Iād list them since that is relevant to the original post.
I like the styling, looks, sporty driving characteristics, punchy engine, quick responding...
My wife wanted a fun, lightweight sports car since the ZL1 was āmineā and all she had was the kid hauler Volvo XC90. She has fond memories of her RX8 she owned back in 2005-2007 when her and I were dating, and the Supra has that small lightweight feel, but much more powerful. So, the Supra is...
Adding to my post above: my ā21 Camaro ZL1 is a better daily, and a better sports car in every way than the Supra IMO. Better driver, better handling, better engine, smoother, better creature comforts, better everything to be frank. Heated/cooled/electric Recaros are also standard. And it has...
Itās OK but not great for a daily driver. Itās a sports car first, so keep that in mind; it also has a lot of quirks that get annoying over time. Itās harder to get in and out of than a āregularā car. I hit my head occasionally on the crazy sloping roofline and itās a pretty low seat as well...
Manuals are desirable to a subset of performance enthusiasts. Prior to about 8-10 years ago automatics sucked so of course manuals were desired, they were faster than the contemporary autos of the day. You also couldnāt control the autos very well so there was no engagement with autos, and when...
I follow a specific process for breaking in engines that high performance engine builders use. Early on (50-100 miles) you want to build some pressure in the cylinders to help the rings properly seat. Essentially, you make several runs up to 75% of the redline starting at medium throttle...
Both normal and sport. Sport for fun roads and occasional roundabout. Normal for day to day driving. In sport I have the trans set to normal. I donāt like how long it holds gears for daily driving. When Iām driving sporty Iām always in manual mode so I donāt need the auto to be aggressive or...
The Supra is a 3rd āfunā car for my wife and me. I part time daily a ā21 Camaro ZL1, and the family hauler is a Volvo XC90 with a turbo and supercharged 2.0.
I say part time daily because I work from home 1-2 times per week, and drive the Supra to work or the gym once a week or so to mix it up...
Bro-dozer lifted 10-20 year old pickup trucks. Too wide for their lane; canāt keep it straight, thinks theyāre fast, and the diesel ones rolling coal at every stop light and lane change and hybrid nearby. Not to mention cheap spacers and lugs that may break off at any given moment, careening...
I also wanted to add since I see you ordered a ZL1: a stock ZL1 is fast as hell for a normal personāhell itās fast as hell even for people with fairly quick cars. So this āsharingā sport bike acceleration with passengers isnāt really necessary. A ZL1 with Kong x-ported blower, intake+ported TB...
Didnāt read all the posts. Hereās my thoughts. 220 whp on a bike is super fast, yes, but as speeds increase drag becomes the dominant force. Super bikes trail off at high speeds faster than a high hp car because a higher portion of the available hp is used to offset the exponentially increasing...
The Supra makes torque, yes, but thereās most definitely some turbo lag. If you canāt feel it drive a PD blower V8 or naturally aspirated Chevy small block in a 6th Gen Camaro or modern Corvette.
Thereās a number of MK5 Supras in and around Boise, so I probably see 1 and sometimes 2 per week now. It used to be 1 every couple of months. Definitely see more C7 and esp C8 Corvettes.
Given my situation with the Supra being a 3rd fun only car, for the money I would pick the Supra again. Iād rather have a 2019 C7 Z06 but when I bought the Supra in ā22 those were $35k more expensive, so, easy decision.
If it was my only car and since I need back seats in my primary car, in the...
The Supra doesnāt have instant torque. Thereās definitely substantial turbo lag when compared to driving my ZL1, which has Instant torque.
I have a ā21 ZL1 A10 and a ā22 Supra 3.0. And yes, if I had to choose only 1 the ZL1 wins hands down. The Supra is fun, but the ZL1 is better objectively...
