@Bryster It is still ugly as hell.
The saving grace could be the drive train. No matter, as a Toyota and at that size it'll remain an 18 year old type of high school dream machine and corny for any adult to really consider at a 50k price point.
Pencil dick front end. Way too narrow-- it needs some shape in front to match the styling of the rear. Headlights are way too big as well. Toyota has got to be the worst car designer next to Subaru at this point. Fools behold your chariot.
The fenders on the red rendering are way too wide relative to the camo car. The rendering gives the actual car too much cred..
@LO7 Wait..you're joking right?
@Jabba Actually no, the center portion opening is fine. Its the vents to the left and right that end prematurely to allow for the vertical inlet indentation that are part of the issue. On a relatively narrow sports car, subtleties matter in achieving the right look. In this case, if they...
Why people defend Toyota's design is beyond me; like it's a personal insult or something. My axiom is simply to state that if you like the existing design, you would likely love it even more if Toyota's designers executed with a more aggressive forepart..
@justbake Gauging the angle and depth as you said can be difficult to judge but with a slightly wider fender, there would be more room to place the headlights as outside as possible while also making them smaller, more in scale with the car. That headlight vertical vent is doing the car no...
@HKz The comparison is in high design. A bmw at 60k or even a corvette ( if these examples are easier for you to follow) has better design sense if you follow the logic I laid out- headlights for sports and sporty cars should be placed at the periphery of the front end, into the fender to...
Doesn't the mkv look better in these photos above than in some of the other recent pics? Scale in the headlights in these pics is better now they have been covered, especially they DTLED scheme that runs into the center and are overall better in size relation to the narrow vents and hood width...
If each headlight shifted outward towards the fenders about 3-4 inches and the front fenders were flared wider 3-4 inches, it would drastically give the car a better look. The lower vents (grill) and headlight placement, sit far too narrow. The lower vents are cut short towards the fenders by...
The mkv is just a terribly hideous sports car, nascar version included. Lexus is on the right track with the RC however and if that platform were to get the v6tt, that will surely get my dollar.
The production GR version needs to have wide fenders, both front and rear. and a special bumper cover. Nothing screams 'high performance model' like wider fenders. While the race version that debuted is obviously overkill for a street car, something in the middle would do a lot to toughen up...
The rendering was quite generous with the width of the front fenders too. i'm not one for any type of body kit but hopefully there's some fenders that come out to give it more shape around the wheels without it looking cheesy af.
@dawsonj87
Affordable? If $55-60k in 1997 or approx $82K today using 2% inflation is affordable for a completely depreciating asset, then I'm living on a different planet. It was never affordable and you shouldn't expect it to be so now.
