AWE Track Exhaust valve actuator/dummy valve

Anyone know if a valve actuator or dummy valve is necessary to install an AWE track exhaust without a CEL? I bought it used and it did not come with it.

Previous owner states that it isn’t necessary for the install and he just tucked it behind the plastic trim under the car, but my friend who I’m going to be installing the exhaust with just wants to double check before putting it on.

You can pull the stock motor off and leave it unplugged, but I would recommend what most of us have done instead which is pull the fuse out of the box instead. Worst case, you may get a code once (I did) but it won't even throw the check engine light. Is the AWE piece necessary? Not really, but its nice to have.
