Good afternoon
I have a 2021 Supra and would like to get the ball rolling with bm3.

Am I correct in saying that the ECU would need to be sent away for an unlock if the ECU was manufactured from July 2020 onwards? I am unable to see my date stamp without taking the ECU out. I might tackle that this weekend.

I had a c300 which was tuned, but I'm not looking for a permanent tune this time, I just want to be able to tinker with some pops and crackles and unlock the extra bhp.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance

If you're not overly worried about power gain and just want some extra power on a stock setup, it's a lot cheaper and easier to just run a JB4. It's more or less a glorified boost controller, but will get you around 30-40 more WHP on 93 Octane (and can get you into the upper 400's with a catless DP + custom map 6 + ethanol blend, if you ever crave more power).

JB4 doesn't directly let you control your pops though, sometimes it seems like they're more aggressive with JB4 enabled, but it's likely just placebo.

That being said, if your ECU date is one of the never-locked ones, a proper tune will give you more power than JB4, smoother power, and better control over your pops.

if you have an OBD wi fi dongle you can use the MHD app to interrogate the ECU to see if it is an early one. (doing that is free in the app)

I would also recommend you look at BM3’s competitor MHD as they support multi map. If it is an early ECU then all you need is a simple bench unlock. (I have an MHD unlocker module sat in a drawer that if you happened to live near by you could borrow) Obviously, you may have a tuner lined up already to do the installation!
