Was playing around with the car trying to get the loudest pops when downshifting for fun this evening (at the track). Found that around 3.5-4k rpm from 3rd to 2nd had the loudest pops. I did this maybe 6-7 times then i couldn’t do it again as the car forced me to stay in 3rd. Is this the nature of the built in protector or did I break something? I thought ZF transmissions were unbreakable? … appreciate any input.

What Max RPM did you pull on the downshift?

Ok. From my understanding of the Auto it has over rev and mechanical protection for the downshifting so it won't let you down shift if the conditions might cause an over rev or mechanical issues for the trans. 4K does't sound like it's too much though. How is it now? A start cycle may have cleared the issue.

It lets me do it a couple of times after I turn it back on but still after maybe the 6th time it prevents me. I think i may be doing it too much and it’s preventing me from downshifting.

Maybe the system just says OK too much noise. It's debateable in reality whether exhaust pops and crackles are technically legal on a road registered car. Maybe BMW limit the amount or amount in a given time to address this. Try doing it over an extended period of the same drive not in a brief succession.

You could probably, ya know...Stop continously downshifting for zero reason whatsoever also?

Whats the point of buying this car when you want to baby it and not drive it to its full potential?

I don’t think a car is meant to continuously downshift for no reason lol
If you read my initial post I found this "problem" at the track. I track this car very often and only for track. I always try to push my car to its limits and I tend to downshift very frequently during corners to retain power and not for "no reason". I think its very immature of you to comment what you commented ("Dumb and dumber that’s why") without context. Not every supra owner drives on the road only. Please reevaluate and think what you comment before saying something unnecessarily negative...

Apparently getting the "loudest pops" is pushing your car to the limit. If you want the loudest pop rev 4th to 6000 and drop into 2nd that should give you the desired pop you want .
