Rattling/fluttering noise on cold start idle.

Hey first time posting but I have been following this forum for awhile.

I have a 2022 A90 premium. I have noticed an annoying rattling noise.

the noise only happens on a cold start up once the engine RPMs drop to about 6-700. That’s when the noise appears.

Then once I start driving the noise goes away but will appear again once I’m at a red light…idling.

if I drive the car for about 10 minutes it goes away completely and I won’t hear it anymore even at idle. Any idea what it could be? I have posted a YouTube link of the sound. I pinpoint exactly when the sound starts so you can hear the engine with and without the rattling.




I’m completely stock. Consistent oil changes. Always shell 93 gas.

yep i have that as well ... the Supra uses very thin oil (0w-20) so expects some rattling esp at cold ... also the valve in the exhaust is also prone to rattling ( its a BMW thing ... i had an M4 and i8 ..both had this ) ... as long as you dont throw codes or lose oil it should not be an issue IMHO

if it goes when engine is fully warmed up ... no worries

some have moved to a good quality 5w-30 oil .. that may help

Watch this before you go changing oil type and particularly weight...
