It might have been a big surprise to see lug bolts on a Japanese sports car, but BMW’s influence on the A90 Supra has indeed been a sweeping one. Fortunately, we at IND have been proponents of stud conversions on BMW for years—the main benefits of which are faster / easier wheel changes and a more motorsport-focused aesthetic.
Future Classic has made it a priority to offer a wide array of stud conversions for BMWs, and now the A90 Supra: two 80mm variants made from titanium and chromoly steel respectively, and a shorter 54mm chromoly steel version designed to work in harmony with Project Kics Iconix closed-end lug nuts. Let’s delve a bit further into each one so you’re able to find the perfect stud for your needs:
Future Classic M14 Titanium Stud Conversion
Titanium wheel fasteners have long been used by exotic manufacturers like Ferrari, shaving precious rotational mass from the car to increase street performance. The two most useful properties of the metal are corrosion resistance and strength-to-density ratio, the highest of any metallic element.
Future Classic, with the expertise of Rogue Engineering, has harnessed this coveted metal to craft the perfect complement to their highly successful, lightweight wheel spacer—the M14 titanium stud kit.
With a 10.9 tensile strength (which meets / exceeds OEM steel lug bolt ratings) and a design that allows for use of 15mm spacers within a compact stud body (meaning less protrusion from the wheel), the Future Classic titanium stud kit sets an exciting new standard in the segment. Versus 75mm steel variants, the 80mm FC unit boasts a 60% effective weight reduction per stud. A bullet nose tip prevents cross-threading and, when compared to flat hex-head studs, will not deform under accidental impact with wheels over time.
In true Future Classic fashion, each kit comes with Loctite 262 (Red) and each stud is pillowed within a laser-cut foam insert to ensure they arrive as perfectly as they were machined. FC’s motorsport-themed “livery box” provides a beautiful finishing touch—this time with the iconic E30 M3 Tic Tac theme—slowly revealing the gorgeous titanium as you slide the box out from beneath.
Who is this stud for? The Supra owner who wants the ultimate lightweight, beautiful solution for their stud conversion. Titanium studs are not recommended for track use, but because they exceed the 10.9 strength class, they will hold up to spirited street duty and the titanium finish is gorgeous to behold against the wheel.
Future Classic M14 Steel Chromoly Stud Conversion
Dual Duty. We endearingly hear a lot in the BMW world. Indeed, BMW’s have been known to excel equally on the street and track in a “dual duty” fashion and we’re seeing a very similar pattern emerge with the A90 Supra.
As a result, Future Classic has developed a steel stud that can cope with the rigors of street and track life equally—the ever-popular titanium wheel fastener design has been carried over identically, but thanks to the chromoly steel material, these studs achieve a 12.9+ grade rating. The robust rating adds that valuable strength that a track car demands with the aesthetic and quality that a street car deserves.
While additional strength is the cornerstone of these studs, the generous 80mm thread body allows for use of 15mm spacers without excessive wheel protrusion. Just like the titanium stud, the large shoulder and thread buffer area help guard against overtightening against the hub and adds additional stud body strength.
Packaging remains consistent as well—the steel stud kit comes with Loctite 262 (Red) and two 19mm installation nuts. Each stud is pillowed within a laser-cut foam insert to ensure they arrive as perfectly as they were machined, all within the confines of the familiar Tic Tac livery box.
Who is this stud for? The proverbial dual duty Supra owner who is concerned about performance more than aesthetic. 12.9+ strength class ensures these studs will hold up to spirited street and track driving and the bullet nose tip will help perform faster wheel changes without cross threading / won't deform after numerous wheel impacts.
Future Classic 54mm Chromoly Steel Stud Conversion
Good things come in small packages. Future Classic's ever-popular stud kit offerings now include a short, 54mm size to work in conjunction with the stylish Project Kics R40 Iconix closed end lug nuts.
Just like the 80mm Future Classic steel stud, these have world-class, independently verified strength ratings (12.9+) thanks to its chromoly construction. As you'd expect from Future Classic, these are as beautiful as they are functional—a generous 6mm shoulder and buffer zone help safeguard against over tightening while also adding a defining design cue.
In contrast to FC's larger stud brethren, this shorty stud wears a small 24.5mm thread area, which makes a traditional "double nut" installation difficult. As a result (and to ensure adequate clearance with the closed end cap), these 54mm studs bear a 5mm Allen key broach.
All of these features are tucked away behind the latest and greatest Project Kics lug nut (a recommended add-on). Made out of chromoly steel 435 with a unique 2-piece design to guarantee precision holding, this lug nut set is strong enough to be used on the street and circuit. Different cap or body finishes are readily available and each full set includes a pack of 16 nuts with 4 wheel locks.
Who is this stud for? The Supra owner who wants to run closed-end lug nuts with no spacers, specifically high end R40 options from Project Kics. 12.9+ grade alloy ensures these will be suitable for street and track use equally. The R40 lug nuts are a top tier choice for both show and track enthusiasts alike—offering robust build quality amidst the ability to color coordinate with the rest of your build.
