Subwoofer mods

I read on another forum of a super owner, who put a kicker powered 12 inch subwoofer box in the luggage area of his supra. Not being satisfied with the Soundsystem as it comes from the factory this intrigued me. My question is, can I remove the factory 8 inch subwoofers and enclosure to save room in the luggage area. I wondered if there would be any technical reasons why I could not do this. Anybody that has any input, I would certainly appreciate your sharing.

They make a natural hump there for space division and they sort of just flatly sit there. While it would make a bit more room, really stuff would just fall behind the seats.
