Has anyone successfully completed a hatch swap? I'm starting to grow tired of the APR carbon wing on my Supra; it was never my first choice but the car came with it. Due to Toyota's interesting design choice of the decklid being plastic and one piece with the rest of the hatch assembly, plus the fact that whoever installed my wing didn't use the washer hardware so the mounting holes are now warped and no longer flush makes the process of swapping just my wing pretty difficult.

I would love to swap hatches with someone, allowing me to start fresh and add the wing of my choice, but I haven't seen much information regarding the complexity of removing and installing a hatch. Let me know what experience y'all have with it, if any.

Why not just take the wing off and plug the holes with filler? Start fresh no need to take the long route.

2 of the mounting holes are warped so likely will be a costly repair + repaint. Wanted to see if it would be easier to swap hatches but it doesn't seem like that will be any easier unfortunately.

If you're going to replace the hatch why not make it carbon fiber. You're already there so why not? Seibon is offering a carbon fiber hatch, and I'm pretty sure other companies will as well.

Subscribed...I'm planing on adding a wing, and I've been considering buying a sacrificial hatch for the wing since I like the idea of being able to return the car completely to stock at some point. Your adventures sound like it's a little more of a pain than it's worth.

I have experience in plastic welding. The easiest, cheapest and most logical and best way is to plastic weld the holes. Plastic welding done right is a very secure repair and the hole distortion can be delt with as well. So find a good plastic welder and then get the paint touched up.

Where are you located? I have a seibon wing on an absolute zero. Also considering swap cause I am tracking my supra and I need more aero. Let me know if you like this.

I would possibly be interested. I’m in Nashville though, looks like you’re way up in Boston.

Let's see how the thread goes. If the switching process is easy and painless probably we can make up a plan.

Does not seem like it's easy and painless from everything I've seen unfortunately.

You'd be better off buying a replacement wing. For instance, the Verus mounts cover 95% of the EOS mk4 wing holes. So could be similar for the Seibon.

Headliner has to be dropped, there’s an electrical harness on top of it. Hatch then can be swapped with glass

Great lesson on why not to drill holes in the hatch for a wing. Otherwise known as buyer's remorse. Good luck. It sounds like a long and expensive journey (cost of the original wing+repair+new wing).

I think you’re just trying to justify you not doing it. It’s your car don’t gotta justify it ?. I did mine with no regrets and should I ever wanna get rid of the wing I’d just get the holes filled not a big deal
