Hey!
Just got done doing an exhaust system swap on my 2023 manual. I installed it myself and I haven't really installed an exhaust on a car before, and I just have basic experience with putting slip on exhausts on motorcycles. I THINK I have a problem with my install but its entirely possible what i am experiencing is normal for the exhaust i chose.
The problem:
I am getting a large amount of vibrations during revving, particularly during the 2.5k rpm range.
The context:
- The system i put on is the Boostlogic duel exit titanium with the valves.
- I am using a catless downpipe from Boostlogic (for the racetrack) Chose them instead of other DPs because I wanted to have the smallest chance of possible of mating issues between the downpipe and the midpipe because i have heard of people having issues with the stock DP mating)
- I am aware that a catless system is just overall going to be significantly louder. However since I have never done a setup like this before, it is unclear if excessive vibrations also come along with catless
- when putting together the system, i used the included grease that boostlogic provides for the joints, as well as tightened the band clamps for the joints with a hand socket wrench (wasnt trying to use excesive force but tried to ensure things were snug. No torque specs or documentation provided by boostlogic.)
- My car is using an OTS 91 octane map for California gas and high flow downpipes. It’s tuned with bm3
My observations and investigation thus far:
- The most problematic RPMs for vibrations are around 2.3k to 2.5k and then it comes back around 5k
- In between these RPMs, with the valves closed, the system sounds about as loud as OEM sport mode (reasonable given that its catless)
- During these RPMs, the vibrations will be so bad that it feels like it 2-3xs the "volume" of the sound
- Anecdotally, the sound seems like it is heavily biased towards the right side when sitting in the drivers seat (which is odd to me since i am closer to the left exit and I would expect them to be equally as loud if there wasnt an install problem)
- I have crawled under the car while the engine was running to confirm that both valves are actuating when switching modes
- I am using the new boostlogic valve springs that come pre-bent to the angle described in this article: https://www.boostlogic.com/supra-valve-spring-mod/
- both valve springs seem to be positioned correctly
- videos of similar setups do not appear to have the vibration from what i can tell and at least one owner has personally given his account that his is quiet with the valves closed. that being said it is hard to capture the vibration on video.
,
The question:
-Is this vibration typical for a catless setup?
-If there is potential for install issues, where should i check?
-Is there any type of minor body contact i should avoid or be wary of happening without me knowing?
Please provide any input you have. I dont need to live with this build being catless and i am happy to throw the cat back on if the vibration cant be remedied, however the resources ive looked at have led me to believe that this might be install related so was hoping to crowd source some ideas in parallel with me reaching out to boostlogic directly
