Hey all,

I just had an HKS intake with the fully enclosed carbon box installed by a local shop on my Supra today. As I was driving I noticed a rattling coming from the engine bay. I believe it is coming from my intake box.

Video below.

Does anybody with an HKS intake, either enclosed box or just the open intake itself have their intake rattle like this? It seems super loose to me but I have never had an aftermarket intake installed before and never physically put my hands on the stock box so I am not sure if that one was solid vs. loose as well.

Does anybody with an aftermarket intake of any brand have this issue? I feel like a portion of the box isnt in a grommet or something.

Are the intakes supposed to be loose like this due to the engine moving under load?

Of course it is Friday night and the shop isn't open until Monday and all I want to do is rip around in my Supra this weekend 😩

Help!

Definitely seems loose to me. I am looking to buy this intake with the CF box, so I’m posting to follow the thread.

I'll keep you updated! Really hoping the shop that installed it just didnt fully seat the box into one of the grommets its supposed to go into. Also hoping others with this intake chime in. I know not many have the full enclosed box so we'll see.

For some reason I can't see your video but I installed the full HKS intake with box and heatshield. Nothing on mine rattles or moves. The grommets aren't hard to miss but it is possible. Open up the lid and take a look inside.

Saw the video. Ill respond here too just in case anyone ever has this problem in the future.

Your intake has a lot more play than mine does. Its not supposed to be 100% rock solid but mine doesn't move that much nor does it creek like that. Open up the box and make sure all the grommets are in the right place or take it back to the shop and have them look at it.

Seems like the grommets either are not seated correctly or no installed at all.

Fs not seated. I had the same issue and knew it was the grommet. It was a little difficult to seat, but yeah, once it’s fully seated you won’t have this issue.

I ordered the same kit today, and I’m very excited to get it installed.

Nice! It sounds great! The turbo noises are significantly more noticeable than with the stock intake box and thats even with my loud AF AWE track exhaust drowning it out haha

Same with my AWE track & MST (or is it MTS 😂) intake. Can’t believe I can still hear that sucker gulping up air on throttle

So interesting little update to this thread.

I’m at the shop that installed it right now and the owner who did the work took me back into the bay and showed me that everything is installed correctly. We went through it piece by piece together in removing the lid and the filter and the bottom of the box. The grommets were seated in and the pins that install into the bottom of the box were fully seated into the grommets.

It seems like these pins are slightly too long and are what’s causing that side to side play. Needless to say, I’m pretty amazed that HKS, a company with a super solid reputation and almost cult-like following doesn’t have this more dialed in. I know that a few of you posted on here that you didn’t have any issues, or had your issues resolved, so maybe I just got a bad batch of longer than necessary pins? Not entirely sure. But given the cost of this full intake kit ($1,500) I’m a little disappointed it’s not more solid from the jump. This is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things of course but still annoying nonetheless.

Our solution that we are attempting is using rubber pads around where the pins go into the grommets to close up the gap and reduce the movement. So far, it is much more solid. Hoping it stays that way.
