So who makes good windshields? I see that Safelite has windshields but I have not idea who makes them etc.

I think Safelite is a good bet but check around and find the facility that can get premium glass. Thereā€™s a price tag attached to the tune of up to 30 percent more.

Sure, but who puts out good glass?

Well, those that manufacture the actual glass do not sell retail direct to the public, which means you will have to go through a retail service outlet, as indicated. So, who puts out good glass is sort of a moot issue for you. Once again, try Safelite, Techniglass, etc. ask for premium grade and just go through your Comprehensive insurance after your ā€œaccidental breakageā€.

I have at least 5 small chips already on the front windshield. Having driven for many years in all kinds of conditions, and far worse, with small rocks etc, this glass seems to chip so much easier than anything I have had in the past. It is very frustrating. Even my FJ Cruiser with it upright and known to crack easily, does better! And I have only 2400 miles on the car, while avoiding being behind trucks etc. Seems like most anything will easily chip the glass. Must be very soft.
It's soft and common with BMW's as well. What kind of glass is it? Pilkington?

What I wonder, and I tried to call safelite but they aren't answering phones, is whether they replace the front glass with OEM or from a manufacture they buy from?
Most likely OEM as this is not a high volume car. Usually they'll produce their own glass, or maybe have a close partnership with a manufacturer to produce glass for them, for Rav4s, camrys, corollas, accords, etc. etc.

Too bad. So the cycle will go on and on with the poor quality. As I mentioned in the beginning, I am careful, so much so that if a truck is beside me or pulls in front, I move away, fast. But little rocks still come up and I now have 5 little chips. Crazy cheap stuff!

Either

Where do we get our auto glass?
Safelite buys its glass from the largest and most sophisticated glass manufacturers in the world; companies that work directly with and supply to the vehicle manufacturers. As more complexity and technology is integrated into vehicle glass, this approach allows us to deliver premier quality products and the best experience for our customers.

What is the difference between OEM and OEE auto glass?
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) auto glass is made by the same manufacturer as your original glass. Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) auto glass is made to the same standards, but by a different manufacturer. Our customers can choose OEM or OEE prior to service by calling 877-664-8931

What product or solution does everyone use to clean the windshield exterior and interior. It's pissing me off. Takes forever to get smudges, streaks, and finger prints off.

Yes, it is like my windshield, when just right in the sun, has been blasted with super fine sand (etched)! The rest of the car is great. I hope that an after market windshield comes out that is decent quality. And I don't use the HUD so that part of glass capability, I don't care about, just good glass!
Iā€™ve noticed this as well. When itā€™s sunny out you can see million of little dots on the windshield that donā€™t come off when I clean it. Has anybody had any experience getting rid of them? Or is that permanent?

I also noticed it seems to always feel really rough even right after cleaning it

I have been using this on the inside and outside to finish the cleaning and it helps a lot. I used it over and over with a light spray of pure alcohol on the inside and it made it much better. The tool actually takes the grunt out of doing this and makes it fairly enjoyable. :^)
