So I got my brand new 40 mile Supra home from the dealership last night and tried to lock the doors only to discover that the doors do not lock or unlock with the door handle. They will only lock with the buttons on the key fob.

I have tried both keys, with no other keys in or around the car

I tried starting the car with the keys up against the steering column (per the recommendation of the local supra tech)

Nothing.

I also cannot connect the car with the Supra Connect app

I have an appointment next tuesday with the dealer but they up to this point have no idea what the problem is.

Anybody seen this before?

Update, apparently when the battery dies (like on the showroom floor) the car will sometimes disable keyless access. They needed to remove the BCM, revert back to factory settings, re-remove from transport mode.. and good to go

That's odd. Never heard of that before. Have to tried looking in the "my vehicle setting"? There are some features you can do when locking or unlocking the car. There might be something in there? I haven't messed with the lock setting in a while. If there is nothing there, I recommend using the free supra concierge service. Hope it helps.

I have been through the owners manual and the radio settings so many times my head hurts.

Someone else on a FB group had this problem after the dealership replaced the battery and botched the re-coding job. Sounds like the PDI got messed up or was incomplete. The dealership will have to fix it. I would maybe explore an alternate dealership and call ahead to see if they have a tech who knows their way around a Supra.

You definitely should bring it somewhere else. I been seeing a lot of the forms about issues people are having and the dealerships are just ignoring customers about the problems.

Tried to change the battery on both keys? Could be also the answer to your problem.

I had something similar when I got home . I think it was cause I had both keys in my pocket . I thought that the battery in the key fob was dead cause it wouldn’t unlock or lock the car. now that I have separated them and put the spare key in the house everything is working normal

I also got my Supra yesterday and it seems like my Smart Key access doesn’t work either, with both the main and spare key. I also changed the batteries on both keys, but it still doesn’t open with the door handle... Sometimes it also says: „Key not detected, when I try to start the car. When I get a bit closer to the steering wheel with the key, the car starts just fine. The dealer is already informed about the problem and will try to identify the problem and fix it on Monday.
I‘ll keep you updated.
Cheers

Thank you for sharing the update, I also suggested my dealer you solution. Did they really need to unmount the BMC in order to reset it??

Not sure, I just know what they told me they did to fix it which was to completely remove it, go back to transport mode, and then out of transport mode like it was originally being PDI'd.

Good news is they didn't have any reason to flash/lock the BCM so I had no trouble flashing with ecutek a few days later

That‘s nice to hear! But normally they don‘t need to unmount the BCM and just re-code it by plugging in the diag. laptop. I have my appointment on September 10th. I am curious what they are going to do :hmm:

I had a similar thing happened to me on my bmw x5 after i got a ding fixed on the door at the dealer's collision repair. CA didnt work only for that door, took it to bmw and they ended up replacing the whole CA module. All the problems listed above should be covered under warranty so just take it to a dealer if it doesnt fix itself.

On a side note, at least for my bmw key that looks exactly the same as the supra key, if your phone is positioned over the keys in the same pocket, the phone may block the signal the key emits which affects the key detection.
