Other poster is right about highway 8 as well⦠checked it out a few weeks ago and way too much gravel.
The Sea to Sky from Vancouver to Pemberton (just past Whistler) is nearly always good to go, but avoid weekends if you can. It might be closed for a few hours once or twice a month while they clean up tourists and teenagers who got into accidents. Definitely check before you leave.
The Duffy...
If you have the time, you should hit up some great roads instead of parking lots. The S2S past Whistler to Lillooet on the Duffy and back would be a fun day trip :)
The majority of it was on the 8 between Merritt and Spenceās Bridge, but there were a ton of other spots on the surrounding highways still being worked on. Same with 5 from Princeton. My favourite roads but theyāre usually either washed away, under snow, or closed because of raging wildfires...
Nine hundred kilometres today, most of which were amazing⦠aside from discovering that my favourite old twisty highway got half washed away last winter. So many gravel sections while itās getting fixed. Probably added over an hour. I need to prepare more haha
I wrote this review of the Sea Sucker years ago when I had a different car, but Iād still say all the same things about it. It can be awkward but I like your idea of putting the bike on the rack before putting the rack on the car - Iāll try that.
I can get my large-ish BMC gravel bike in the...
My dude, it happens. I was parallel parking against a curb and didnāt see that a section of it was broken and sticking out by 6ā because of a tree root. The sound of my rather expensive Apex EC-7R rim sliding against rough, jagged concrete was a lot louder than I would have expected.
I got a...
I'm trying to buy an old Merc R107 from the 80s right now and have been out driving a few of them... Holy fuck me, what a soft and slow piece of shit that takes up way too much room. It feels like I need to start turning the wheel a hundred feet before I get to the corner, and why is the...
Worrying about oil consumption is a vital step in your journey as a Supra owner ;) There are many threads, probably a few thousand posts, and zero consensus on what's okay and what means your engine is seconds away from imploding. Some cars seem to be oil-thirsty for a while and then chill out...
If I had to replace it soon, itād likely be an Emira despite the lack of storage space. I need to get a bike inside so the Supra is perfect, but I guess Iād get a Sea Sucker or something. Front engine GT car with a big rear hatch just works so well for how I live - the Supra is perfect that way...
You can eat or drink anything in my car - itās the most expensive thing Iāll ever buy, but itās also my street parked daily driver. That said, I clean the interior too often ?
If itās a ā21, you absolutely need to make sure itās not drinking oil. A small number of 2021s have had major engine work or even replacement under warranty.
And check the ECU to see if itās in forever lockdown.
Big update for me: my ā21 went in for rings and pistons last week but I just found out that itās getting a new block. Going to take a few weeks but Iām stoked with the outcome. Already planning a fun break-in road trip.
It can be so brutal and definitely not the place to do anything remotely stupid either. I always end up chilling in multiple pull outs, so worth waiting. Crazy variety between Vancouver and down into Lilloette, from too fast by the ocean to too tight with a high chance of frost heave and gravel...
