Don't know the answer to your question, but I had the same issue. I just wrapped a baseball card in a thin microfiber and slipped it between the glass and the cover. The edge is rubber and you can slightly pull it away from the glass.

Sorry, I meant there are two detents between closed and fully open. But even that middle one is too wide - open it to that position and measure from where the edge of the door would touch a wall, to the side skirt of your car. It's 35 inches - where I live the spaces give you like 15 inches at most.
