The C8's specs and price blew me away and I immediately thought about the Supra. But if anyone here is like me, I would never consider buying one. It's just not for me.
Again, the only tuner friendly car coming from Toyota in the past decade was the 86 because it had a Subaru ECU. If the Supra...
For anyone who takes Harris seriously, watch this video:
He's an entertainer and a relatively good one, but that's all he is. He couldn't say anything negative about the MkV other than it's not a Toyota with huge emphasis that Toyota simply rebadged a Z4. If he didn't say that, it would have...
It goes both ways. Eventually that mark up is going to go down and the gap will be obvious. LC500s easily reached +100k with mark ups and still do fully loaded.
Your "Supra" exists. It's just not called a Supra. It's in the same family as the IS-F (IS300), RC-F (SC300) and it's called the LC500 (Supra). All three run the 2UR-GSE which was co-developed by Yamaha and all of them are around the 72-78k price range either new or used with relatively low...
It's Torque Vectoring similar to how Auto LSD works on Toyota Trucks. It uses the brakes to prevent wheel slippage to "simulate" an LSD in an offroad situation rather than an actual LSD on the street.
I assume the A90 diff is electronically controlled to simulate a mechanical torque vectoring...
For the 3-4 months or so (assuming training doesn't take long) from when customers start receiving their Supra's until there are certifiable technicians to work on them, what would happen if any of them face any issues? go to BMW? (I wish I was joking, but I'm not).
No one is arguing that the engine isn't BMW. We're talking about the claim that the ECU has not been tuned by Toyota. We all know for a fact the Supra is currently pushing more than 335hp. Those figures are a "gentlemen's agreement" between the two companies to rate this B58 variant as 335hp...
Wait, are you saying Toyota was given a locked ECU map and just accepted the tune given to them by BMW or are you saying the engine was physically tuned by BMW (ie, heads, turbo, cooling) and Toyota didn't mess with any of those parts?
I can accept the latter but to say a multi billion dollar...
Regardless if the 7-10mm was factored in, the lower two trims would definitely have a lower CoG so Toyota would technically be right. Who cares about it anyway, and the few who really do would probably get the base model with the 3.0L, slam it with lowering coils and remove as much weight as...
Different dynos, DA, gear, etc. The two Supra dynos we saw so far have similar hp numbers but quite different torque figures. Those we can barely compare if we can assume the torque difference is due to the gear selected. The Z4 numbers simply have too many variables to be compared to and way to...
I just realized that those were in the Z4. Tada was either very misleading in his comments or what he was saying was lost in translation or somewhere in between. I think he wanted to point out how the A90 is more rigged than the Z4 without saying anything bad about the Z4 itself so it came out...
I would say get the Auto and don't wait if it's not a deal breaker. There is a very slim-to-non chance of us getting a manual on the big boy B58 engine. A few years down the road I can see a manual trans swap kit happening by the time MKV owners start to run out of warranty. I realize some can't...
You guys are completely ignoring the influence of the media and "Youtubers" on sales at this time and age. There is a reason why every other new "car guy" was buying a GT86. This car alone made a few Youtubers famous (ex. TJ Hunt). He started as a Justin Beiber wanna-be and now he's a million...
IMO even though its technically more BMW than Toyota, the market will see it as a Toyota/Lexus or worst case scenario, like an 86. A 3 year old A90 would probably cost 30-40k depending on trim level, mileage and modifications.
Edit: math
I count 30-40 units, 9 in the first row and I only see 4 rows. Some of those are probably going to other countries in the region.
Qatar got 7, KSA at least 3 probably more and the UAE will probably share some of those units in Oman.
Those numbers are nowhere near enough to saturate the market...
Yeah, I remember reading about it awhile ago but couldn't remember the name so I wasn't sure. So basically it's a specific purpose piggy back ECU. I tried searching for port injectors installed on a B58 but couldn't find any. Are they drilling and tapping into the intake manifold or using custom...
1. Depending on how big the stock direct injectors are, they will be one of the things to determine how much power you can make before upgrading your fuel system or installing a water/meth injection kit. As far as I know, port injection, like on other cars, requires a standalone ECU (expensive)...
Personally, If I would get a LE I'll take the CF caps. I don't think I'm the only one either. This is probably why they are an option as to sell as much LEs as possible.
Top gear so far:
Supra vs Z4: Z4 is boring, Supra is ok (definitely not as good as the A110 or the Cayman though, we just had to mention that)
Supra vs Alpine: Supra is boring and too much "oomph", Alpine is fun
Supra vs M2: Supra is ok and not enough "oomph" (Audi TT replacement?), M2 is fun...
