I actually like Bangle era and M cars under Goeschel with S54, S62, S65 and S85 engines. BMW lost it with the departure of Bangle and Goeschel. M2 is a car built by committee.
Not a fan of a Supra made by BMW M, but at least, the best BMW today will have a Toyota badge instead of a BMW badge. Time to test BMW fans: Do they drive BMW because they are such good cars or just for the badge only? Would they drive a BMW that does not have a BMW badge? I think BMW fans are...
At the end we are all fans of something. While we think Toyota/Lexus is superior to BMW, the BMW fans think otherwise, and for them they see the BMW as a Toyota and that is a disgrace for them.
Knowing BMW, I don't think it will get transaxle. BMW always cheapens out, like the lack of double wishbone front suspension for example, only now with the new 5 Series the availability of AWS in combination of AWD, etc. There are many more examples.
From an engineering point, there is nothing...
Well, you see that in the same period, prototypes of a roadster and a coupe were spotted, but they are significantly different. It was long known that the Toyota will be a Coupe and the BMW a roadster. Also, this car is like supposed (otherwise why the partnership?) to be like the Alfa 4C, or...
Given the small size if the new "Supra", I think this car will replace the GT86, and will have several engines, maybe 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder, like Porsche 718 has two engines. I think the price range will start quite low, and get more expensive with more power. This time, if the new Supra...
IMO the type of transmission is less important than where the transmission is located. For a mid-front powered rear-wheel-drive car, the the transmission MUST be at the rear axle.
See Ferrari FF, Ferrari F12, Ferrari California, Maserati GranTurismo, Aston Martin Vantage, Aston Martin Vanquish...
Glad the hood is not ugly long as the Mercedes-AMG GT. Like that it looks compact. Hopefully it will be lighter than a Porsche Cayman. Unfortunately knowing how cheap BMW is, I doubt it will have a transaxle.
Yes, as far as I know, these cars were not sold in Europe (LHD), but there only in UK as RHD. Honda NSX and Mitsubishi 3000GT are also a rarity. Ironically I saw more Subaru SVX than Skyline GT-R, Supra, NSX and 3000GT.
The GT-R R35 is on sale in Europe, but only few enthusiast buy them.
My list starting from most important:
1. Transaxle (whether manual, sequential, dual-clutch, automatic or variable, no importance, but it should be at the rear axle)
2. Compact size (two seats)
3. Light weight
I'm not interested in supercars, even if I could afford all of them. They do nothing for me. What is needed IMO, for me at least, is a 1.000-1.200 kg 300-400 PS 2 seat lightweight sports car. This car does not exist. McLaren 570s is heavy, Lotus Evora is heavy, Porsche Cayman is on the heavier...
I think he just slipped. He wanted to say LC, but said Supra. Maybe because he is working on both. If the LC and Supra are share anything, it does not mean that they share the same chassis. Toyota wants the Supra to be lighter and smaller, this cannot happen if it uses the LC chassis.
Not possible. If not Toyota, BMW would not build any Z4 successor, because its sales have been dismal, and a 3 Series based Z car, as before, just doesn't cut it anymore.
Z4 E89 stops production at the end of November 2016. I don't expect there to be any Z concept, but if there is it will just be the usual production car with concept bits.
