I guess some guys think Amsoil is also "garbage oil". It is not.
Here's an example of their oil advice:
"
Engines are Built to Use a Certain Viscosity of Motor Oil
Today’s advanced engines are built with much tighter tolerances than their predecessors. The clearances between the crankshaft...
How many years have you used their oil to determine that it is "garbage"? How about the BMW or GR oil. Are those garbage as well? The reason why the owner's manual specifies use of oil that meets the listed ACEA C5 and API SN standards. Veer away from those standards at your own risk.
The OP...
Two points before this thread goes too far on an oil tangent.
1. Liqui Moly is a good brand of oil. They recommend their 0W-20 for street Supras. Anything else could void your warranty.
2. Any oil you choose must meet the standards listed in your owner's manual for warranty reasons. Of course...

Does a California smog test technician insert an exhaust test probe into a vehicle's exhaust pipe as part of the emissions test?

Yes, during a California smog test, a technician typically inserts an...
What's somewhat funny is that while CA is typically among the strictest emissions states in the US, a new gas or hybrid vehicle does not have to be smog-checked for 8 years.
That's CA for you. They no longer do a tail pipe (sniff) test on newer vehicles like ours. They DO do a visual inspection and plug into the OBD port to verify that there's no codes or "not ready" display.
Thankfully, the fist smog check is not for 6 or 8 years after being purchased, new.
There used to be a law in CA (not sure about now) that you can replace a cat only if it has over 100,000 miles on it. I guess if the new cat looks the same as the OEM one, then you're safe.
Not really true for every case.
I have a much better manual transmission in my MX5, which I alternate-drive. I've been driving manuals for 50 years, but I've almost always had a manual and auto-trans cars. Each had its purpose regarding where I could park to how much heavy traffic was likely to...
Certainly, that is a logical train of thought. I've noticed that after driving my car, there are light films of black (brake pad material, maybe) behind the tires and the front and rear corners. I haven't seen any paint chip voids in those areas, so I'm not worried about the rear areas that are...
There are areas of vehicles that almost never get paint damage, so I would recommend that you minimize the cost by either doing some of it yourself (There are probably many videos out there.) and having a pro do the rest. But perhaps skip areas that are good enough being ceramic-coated.
First of all, you should go back to the original poster's question which was about whether or not there is a difference among the different 0W-20 synthetic oils.
The correct answer is that yes, there is. I explained that if you use oil that is not specified by Toyota for the GR Supra, a...
First Saturday of every month in Poway. Next one is this Saturday, Sept 7th at 10:30 AM. See attached flyer. This is a typical all-vehicles meetup. I'll be there.
