That happens to me all the time as well while i do park mine in the garage too but the head lights will turn off automatically once you pull out of the garage (if ambient light is bright enough). Are you just trying to save your lights from "excessive" wear and tear? I'm sure you can turn that...

To be honest, after looking at the hood, i don't think any damage would occur. The main concern would be rust but between the double layered hood, it looks to be painted. At the very least, all panels should be e-coated. Also, the hood is aluminum as well. Other risk factors would be debris...
