I wonder if a Mangaflow with a muffler on the quiet side and straight pipe on the loud side wouldn't do just what I want. Their modular design is certainly interesting. I will email them and ask about compatibility with the MT. Thanks man.
I understand all of that. I will call attention to Borla here, because they do (or did) a great job with their videos, clearly using a discrete recorder with a fixed gain. I wish all exhaust reviews were done this way, but people just don't understand how much work the ADC+software/firmware in...
I just came to the Supra from five years of GT350 ownership with an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel.
Those wheels can get gross looking in a few thousand miles if you aren't careful. They soak up skin oil like a sponge. Mine looked pristine when I traded it after 10k miles, but only because...
I just think we're not on the same wavelength when we use the word "significant."
Particularly in regards to the HKS dual muffler exhaust you're talking about, I can't ignore what I'm seeing and hearing in this video:
They show a decibel meter about two feet from the car and at a constant...
Just for reference (and yes I know this video looks like it was made in 2004, it's not mine ? ) if you skip to 4:22 you can hear a decent comparison of what the GT350 sounds like with the valves closed vs. open. It sounds like two entirely different cars.
Valves closed on the GT350 sounds...
I won't be doing that (any sort of mod to make it always open) - I specifically want the functionality of being able to change it with the sport button.
You're saying the sport mode doesn't increase the pops and burbles? That's a function of the engine map. And in these configurations where the OEM valve is being retained, they're using sport mode to open the exhaust valve. So you can't have one without the other...
I think people are just kind of missing what I'm after. The stock exhaust sounds like there's hardly any difference at all between normal and sport to me.
On the GT350, when the valves are closed everything is going through a pretty aggressive muffler that makes the car reasonably quiet...
Judging by this video, it seems like the difference in sound between valve open and valve closed is almost all down to the pops-and-burbles ECU map.
I want it to be heavily muffled when the valve is closed.
HKS - looks like both sides are identical. What's the point of keeping the valve?
Akrapovic - not interested in paying the titanium tax or dropping any weight really.
Apexi - this looks like the HKS, where both sides are identical.
ARK - the design of this exhaust (the DTS) looks absolutely...
Okay riddle me this about the HKS setup because it's been brought up repeatedly - maybe I'm just looking at pictures and not seeing what's going on. It looks to me an awful lot like the piping is the exact same after the Y on both the valved and non-valved side.
So if that's true, what...
In all my research, it sure seems like a lot of the exhausts out there (for the 3.0) seem to repeat some of the same patterns:
They take you from a very quiet OEM setup to a very loud aftermarket one, with not much in-between.
They omit the OEM valve, or if they do keep it...
..there's not a...
