It won't rub.
Just completed my square setup today.

Glad to see this thread still active. Sorry for any replies I didn't see, life just kind of happened.
Happy to report 8 months later, this mod still works great.
I found some 16mm x 100mm die spring options for you if you don't want to wait. Dimensions are the same and the max load is around 45lbs per spring which is plenty.
Option 1 - Qty. 5
Option 2 - Qty. 2
When you initially install, like my video, it seems a bit forceful/jerky. It’s because the strut and spring are new and haven’t settled. (The trunk has a long range of motion, which allows for additional vertical movement, so the jiggling/vibrating you see in the video isn’t really harming...
Update for y’all. Here are specs of my final solution. The shaking at the end isn't as rough as the video shows. It will pretty much go away once the struts and springs settle in. Specs below:
Struts
Springs (Required Qty. 2)
Other Optional Springs in lieu of (Required Qty. 4)
Washers - M8...
The regular spring I bought had the near exact specs as the spring you bought. I’m guessing my strut is different length than yours because even with the trunk near closed, the strut isn’t even close to compressing the spring. In the video, you can see how much length I needed just to get a good...
An update.
The yellow die spring diameter was too small for my strut (even though specs said otherwise).
The blue die spring was perfect but still too short to compress despite the longer length.
The regular spring was strong but too short as well.
Given how hot it’s been in Texas (100+) and...
I got my numbers done from @Jesse DaBears recently and the Supra pulls strong. Very happy. I do about 65 miles daily, (mainly highway), in this triple digit Texas heat. Car is super quick and I still average 23MPG. On weekends, I do a lot of pulls and spirited driving. No CEL. MST v2 intake, AA...
Yea the Home Depot springs are too weak to force the trunk open. The green die spring I originally bought was strong but too short.
I haven’t found anywhere locally that carries the specific spring and weight capacity that Andrew found nor did I find it on Amazon. (Didn’t want to wait on eBay...
Just to update. The 97lb struts work fine, but you still need to assist a bit. However, the same “jiggle” once fully extended still happens, but playing with the different spring combinations seemed to alleviate it a bit.
Amazon delivered only 1/2 springs…so I went to Home Depot to see if some...
I have these two in my cart and will probably get some washers from Home Depot or see if someone has some laying around.
I went with higher duty spring and some 97lb struts. Watching Andrew's video, seemed like 120lb was still a bit much (end of video, the trunk was jiggling). Hopefully my...
Think I may have found it a la Tesla Model 3 owners.
Andrew, could you possibly try this on your strut to see if it assists in opening?
(eBay) Tesla Model 3 Die Spring (13mm diameter)
(eBay) Tesla Model 3 Die Spring (US Seller) (13mm diameter)
