ECS Tuning, last week. I've been scanning suppliers daily for weeks. ECS Tuning said they truly had exactly one in stock, so I ordered it. Now I'm wondering if I got a return, not that I care as long as it's functional.
I just received a DS-1 downpipe, and the flange is welded about a millimeter off center. Is this a functional problem or simply a cosmetic level issue?
Obviously I wish it was welded up perfectly rather than looking like someone was in a rush, but I don't care if it's not going to be a...
"450whp is a waste of power without traction upgrades"
I'm doing my best to get the tires worn down so I can replace them :) I like the stock wheels, so I've been assuming I'd go towards the 295 end, or whatever the max is on stock wheels/suspension.
I think I've got enough to go on for now...
That has my interest. I was thinking of waiting for the cheaper version of the CSF intake manifold to retain PI and WMI options. If Methanol isn't needed, would a PI plate work just as well? Since I'm not racing, maybe the intake manifold upgrade isn't necessary? Or is that still a good idea on...
Yeah, the downpipe then an initial tune is the first phase. Then I figure the turbo and whatever supporting mods would be done over the winter when I'm not driving the car. It's after the turbo that it's not clear what to do.
Since 90 and literally zero ethanol is the long term limiting factor...
I'm getting ready to start performance upgrades on my 3/20 build Supra, presumed unlockable.
I have not done performance upgrades before, so I'm trying to avoid mistakes in assumptions and purchases. I'm hoping to work with an appropriate tuner that can give me some guidance (and maybe install...
I tried cover on and off with the MST v2 last night. I think it sounded a bit louder without the top, but in video it doesn't seem that different. Testing was at normal highway speeds and 50-70MPH blips, plus accel from 0.
IAT was slightly different by a couple degrees, but it's not like I was...
I have the MST V2. It does lock on, but it's in an awkward spot to get it lined up well. It's also obviously a pain to take off as well. I've done it a couple times and I was paranoid I was going to break the hose fitting each time I took it off or put it on.
I picked up the intake+inlet combo from Extreme Power House for $519 and I'm glad I got the combo instead of reusing the stock inlet pipe.
The install was easy and the OEM intake and pipe are completely intact if I need to put them back on.
I don't think I drive it hard enough long enough to notice heat soak if it's there. Feeling the intake after a drive did make me want to look into a turbo heat shield.
I had trouble finding a decent audio clip of the MST intake before I bought it, so if you are interested in what it sounds like, here's a good example on a stock '21 Supra other than the MST intake and MST turbo inlet pipe.
Recorded with a Blackvue dashcam.
It's not as noticeable form the...
The owner's manual states 89 minimum along with boilerplate about knock at high external temps. It seems like a 90 specific tune would hep tune out the risk of knock rather than have the car learn it.
Short version: I'm making tuning plans for this year, but in a year or so I'm planning on moving to someplace where 90 octane is the best available pump gas.
Long version:
I'm waiting for spring to arrive in upstate NY, so I'm evaluating catted downpipe+intake to run for a bit without a tune...
When Toyota sent me a vehicle satisfaction survey (not the dealer one), I included a link to this thread and told them I had this problem where my car shut off completely when I revved the engine.
Hopefully it at least makes a tabulator somewhere squirm.
Ditto. Having no assist but vibration has been my favorite. I'm always annoyed with my Subarus that have a tendency to not only bounce off the edges of the lane, but also beep incessantly if you do anything mildly interesting on your own without warning it.
It would be different if I had a habit...
Is there any advantage to that over unplugging the forward camera? I put my battery in the back and rarely worry about turning it off, but I did unplug the camera for winter storage.
