Why do you say that? In my experience sport mode only upshifts when you get to ~3k RPM. It absolutely will shift into 7th, it does so every day when I'm on the freeway. Shifting to 8th would require cruising at ~95 mph in 7th to hit that RPM, which I haven't done, but I suspect if you did it...
