Most shops are drop shippers and don't actually carry product. They reach out to the main distributor and product is sent from there.

So this dealer has 40k, assuming that's what everyone paid as a deposit, just sitting on their books. That sounds like a tax/ accounting nightmare.

What do you mean? 23s have been done for months. Shipping of 24s started in the fall. If anything you'd be lucky to get a MT 24 by summer before they switch you over to a 25.
