Now that WOULD be amazing. With a different turbo setup and fuel system as well if they're going that far. I'd expect Yamaha to be involved in the head design if this were to be the case.
At that time it was probably on sale in those two models, yes. I'm not very familiar with the BMW line outside of their M coupes and sedans. That particular Tetsuya Tada interview was from about two years ago, I think. I believe it was originally from a Japanese car new outlet like Bestcar.
No, the S58 was out in a BMW M or two by that point-- probably quite new then but already on sale. He referenced the S58 engine specifically in that interview but only with that cryptic question and from that point on wouldn't say any more about it.
Tada-san would certainly have insider...
More USA-based manufacturing and supply chain emphasis is sorely needed as we have found out. For some things we buy it'll never be a 100% thing but microchips and other similar goods it's definitely a big problem that we need to get a handle on. We're just beginning to steer in the right...
Oh you bet it will involve dealer markups for the staged power upgrade options through Dodge dealers. Not to mention some dealers will keep few of these on the lot in 100% base tune at the regular MSRP *before* applying the inevitable vehicle sales markups. That's another annoying part of all...
Also, Tetsuya Tada did cheekily ask in one of his public interviews a couple of years ago, "What would you think of the Supra with an S58 engine?"
The wording he used was very close to that. Of course he never mentioned it again.
Well, here's one more answer. The "unlock" programming that you'll pay for will be tied to each Daytona's VIN and will therefore be transferrable with each car they are added to, confirms Dodge CEO. So there is that...
You may ultimately be right. Still, do we really attribute a real world value based on a (for example) 1,000hp or higher HP Dodge Daytona EV that in stock form is only putting out half that number until you flip out your credit card and pay Dodge $6,000 or far more (arbitrary and made up figure)...
There is already a lot of workforce downsizing happening as the transition to electric vehicles grows on the OEM side of things so that is going to continue going forward.
However people will still own these things and since it's a transition that everyone has to make I do think 3rd party...
Yes, traditionally you do get what you pay for in terms of physical hardware capabilities and quality.
But if someone buys a 300-400hp Dodge Daytona 400-Volt model that is capable of 700hp+ if programmed to do so... and let's say this person has bought this vehicle outright with no more left on...
Hmm... so there are really only two different powertrains and the only real "upgrade" would be fully swapping over everything from an 800V Daytona SRT into a 400V Daytona model.... but you're locked out of higher output programming for each of them.
AND Dodge is apparently going to try to kill...
Very cool!! I hope the sound in the video is genuine. As expected, with current battery technology that's a very big damn pack filling out the chassis. With next generation cell technology I'd hope for a pack even half that size or less granting the same or better specs.
The 800V standard is...
As others have already mentioned, the MKV has always been planned to end with *model year* 2026, meaning sales for the MY2026 Supra lineup through actual year 2025.
Presumably this will also be the case for the BMW Z4 lineup within the same general timeframe.
Alternatives, all very different from one another:
2024-2026 Supra 3.0 6MT
2023+ GR Corolla w/Torsen LSDs
2022+ GR86 6MT
Down the road... 2025(?)+ GR86 successor if the current rumors pan out
My overwhelming preference is a Supra 6MT to park alongside the 2JZGTE SC300.
There's also the Nissan...
I think Toyota and specifically Akio Toyoda are keen to do several last-chance ICE and hybrid ICE projects prior to 2035... but the U.S. is far from their only market. There are also all the other world countries and their own positions on phasing out gasoline and diesel at certain hard dates in...

Now Jalopnik is reporting on it as well. No new information over the Bestcar article above though.

Saw this. Hopefully their long term BEV plan will turn out well since they needed to get on top of it one way or another.
I'm just a little concerned that their main benchmark is... Tesla. I really hope they aren't going for more Tesla-like cars or a Tesla-like ownership experience. Not...
