Exactly guys, a modern DCT is roughly 40-60 lbs heavier than a manual counterpart, which is simply not noticed in a 3,000 lb car. Any decreased performance due to weight is completely offset by quicker shifts, increased fuel economy, etc. Additionally, modern DCT design drastically...
I only want a dual clutch, so a DCT-only Supra wouldn't bother me one bit. In fact I'd rather they only offer one transmission since it would make the car cheaper overall and be that much easier when shopping across dealers. The only thing that would really bug me is if they gave us some...
It would cost too much on an already costly project, and would increase the pricetag of all versions of the car in the lineup.
On a relatively low-volume car like this it is very cost prohibitive to offer multiple option packages, let alone engine and transmission setups. It's not like the...
GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE ;)
Good point, in 2-3 years there will undoubtedly be a refresh of the C7 vette, ZR1 may have arrived, new GT500 will have been out for a year or so, we should be on the cusp of the R36 GT-R (which should be a complete monster), Porsche will have introduced the...
Haha yeah good point. We're literally a month a way from 2015... I suppose 2016 is possible but I just don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed.
We'll probably see the Supra before we ever see an NSX on the showroom floor. ;)
For what it's worth, Toyota has sold the Land Cruiser for years, which currently stickers for over $80,000. Sequoia platinum is $65k. Granted they sell only a handful of Land Cruisers per year, but it evidences Toyota's willingness to maintain an expensive low-volume car (likely at a loss)...
Based on the interviews of the designers and the quotes from Akio Toyoda, the MkV Supra will be a premium flagship sportscar to Toyota just as the GT-R is to Nissan. However, given the different design ethos and FR layout of the car, it's going to focus less on the electronic wizardry and more...
This car would be incredible.
I can't wait to see the final specs on this car. While they're not the same project, what the LF-LC gets I think would set the bar for what could come to FT1/Supra.
Even without Supra, this car has the potential to be completely awesome by itself.
A lot of the flares etc. IMO need to be made functional (e.g. front and rear bumper faux-canards).
Don't really care about it being 2+2, wouldn't mind seeing those seats go, but I also wouldn't mind having them either.
Really that's it though. Love everything about this car.
For real!
Never thought the day would come, but the 90s is really showing through in the MkIV. Still a great looking car, but they're just old now.
FT1 looks gorgeous.
Given the decrease of costs recently to produce carbon fiber and developments in CFRP, etc., I think it's reasonable to expect a significant amount of carbon in this new car.
As others have mentioned, given the BMW i3's carbon structure and relative low cost, I think we could realistically see...
+1
In addition to cost, I don't want the Supra to have some cheap platform. I also don't want the new Supra brand to be diluted by a bunch of cheaper versions running around. This new car should be special.
Nope.
I don't care how great a value the car is, how good of mileage it gets, I don't want a cheap Toyota sporty car; I want an authentic world-class sportscar.
Yeah sure in theory they could give us formula one 4 cylinder engines with 700 horsepower, but it's not going to happen.
Yeah this sums it up.
Link is dead though... any other links to more recent interviews?
At this point I would be surprised if they went with any other name, although it wouldn't detract from the car if they did.
It'll happen but to a much, much smaller extent.
Toyota 86 was always intended to be a volume seller like any other car on the lot. Also it was co-developed and expected to sell across two (three) brands.
FT1/Supra is not likely intended to be a big money maker and as such won't have to...
Given the concept being 10% larger for stage presence, MkV Supra production dimensions should be something more like:
FT-1 (10% Less)
Wheelbase: 104.2 in
Length: 177.1 in
Width: 74.9 in
Height: 46.5 in

This:
MkV Supra is going to blow the Corvette out of the water.
This is going to be Toyota's flagship sportscar, not some midrange warmed-over 370Z competitor. It's going to have a solid pricetag, but we're going to be getting something really special instead of something underwhelming...
Yeah I agree. This is going to be Toyota's flagship car, and they're going to want it to be taken seriously. I don't think the MkV Supra is going to compete with the Z06 or the GT500, but it should be head and shoulders above stuff like the Z51 Corvette, Gt350, BMW M4. The quality of the...
Hahaha I wish. Just saying those are my semi-reasonable ideas of a perfect car, since my perfect car would have 2,000 horsepower, get 100mpg, fly, and not cost a cent.
And yeah I don't foresee 600 horsepower, but I do expect 500+. I do think it would be feasible for Toyota to deliver 600...
