I changed mine based on useage. My dealer and his ZF contacts had no issues with that. I think the only real issues is the cost of the ZF fluid lol. Useage should be no issue unless you let the car sit for a long time. I saw nothing in my ZF data referenced to time.

YOu can lubricate the mechanism and avoid this. It will repel moisture and allow it to open as it should.
