bad picture attached but...
its really deep. most of the low rpm notes sound like a trombone. I was really surprised that the cold start isn't really loud but I think that's more because of the b58. The exhaust really starts to scream past 4k and it sounds really good. there's drone at 55-75mph and mellows out at 80ish...
Would the damage shown on the compressor and the shaft play on the turbine validate your original speculation? do you think anything else come have came into play here?
I think that’s the plan with it! I gotta imagine Pure doesnt care about the damage here as they scrap the wheel and re-machine the housing but I gotta do more research
new turbo is in....
and she runs!!!!!
took 5 hours total to get the old one out and the new one in. really not that bad!! big thank you to @Ghostop for the new stock turbo.
I attached some pictures of the old turbo off the car. that thing really got bent up.
Video of shaft play...
I really appreciate the detailed response. It really shined some light on what possibly happened here to a novice like myself.
I want to give Visconti another chance because I've already committed and shelled out money, but I will do my best to explain what's going on and hopefully they can...
I’m going to stick with stock turbo for now, i should have one ready to install this weekend.
what do you think i should tell my tuner (Visconti)? I literally bought and received an E50 tune a week before this happened. I highly doubt i could get a refund or anything but a revision to prevent...
wow you are totally right! i kinda assumed it was just some weird design LOL. I appreciate the comparison picture. its quite a relief knowing what’s actually going on here
my biggest worry is they will blame me for over boosting and look at the flash count and see its at like 7. I appreciate the friendly caution, but I just want to avoid the dealership for this one. Maybe try my chances at an warranty claim for something more expensive (god forbid something...
the compressor side had no shaft play oddly enough. solid as a rock compared to the exhaust side. I plan to take detailed pictures and document what exactly happened in this thread once i pop off the turbo this weekend
i can’t remember if it was back and forth or up and down but i’ll make note to check this weekend. heres a crappy picture of the hot side for what its worth
