  1. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Pretty much the way to test a clutch. I usually use 3rd or 4th gear with the engine at around it's peak torque rpm then go WOT instantly. If it passes that then the same again but add a fast as possible shift into the next highest gear and WOT again as instantly as you can. The second part is to...
  2. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Bald tyres, first gear and you think it was clutch slip! Phil
  3. Bad smell under the hood when CTEK connected

    Really. Big statement. Phil
  4. The Official AUSTRALIAN Thread

To bring in a "grey import" you need a licence and do the conversion of seat belts headlights and other stuff. I worked with a guy that used to do it as a business on the side with his brother. Flew to the Japanese auctions every 2 or 3 months then shipped them home and converted them. They...
  5. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Nicely said and a torque number. When you've laid under enough cars pulling clutches and gearboxes without a lift you learn to look after them technique wise. A lot of people won't believe that technique is a massive part of clutch life though. Reminds me when I was much much younger and I was...
  6. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

From what I've seen a good stock manual Supra will make about 390hp at the wheels so that's around 20% on 470hp. I wouldn't want to go too far down the precise numbers road though Dynos being what they are. A torque figure would be nice but I'm guessing comfortably under 500ft/lbs Phil
  7. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Really. It's just a general comment, not aimed at anyone in particular. Phil
  8. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Yes torque is the killer. I forgot the calculation reverses between small and larger output engines. Phil
  9. What did you do to your Supra today?

    Like those wheels Phil
  10. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Maybe but I've never seen a clutch with only 20% headroom over stock, even on a grocery getter. With that little margin there would be literally 75% of owners with slipping clutches on stock HP within a very short time. Phil
  11. Full throttle -- RPM's climb fast but car doesn't accelerate correspondingly

Here's a pretty typical "the clutch won't handle a modest increase in HP without slipping" scenario/story. The user has already glazed the clutch friction plate and flywheel face with poor clutch skills/operation. The first sign is clutch slipping under maximum torque application or a modest...
  12. new issue! whats this code?

He's already replace the battery but it sure sounds like that:dunno: Phil
  13. new issue! whats this code?

Just go and put 20 miles on it and a few starts and see what happens. Phil
  14. Manual Supra Shift Knob Options out there?

If you mean an old style shifter gate like a Ferrari uses then I don't really think you can use one on the Supra because the shifter shaft dia is too large. You need a thin shaft diameter and a fairly wide side throw to use one I would have thought. On the std shaft you would end up with...
  15. Spring install: non-reusable bolts?

There's generally two reasons manufacturers specify one use only fasteners these days. One is the fastener is a TTY bolt and the other is the bolt requires a locking medium such as Loctite to be applied which the new OEM bolt will come with pre applied. Manufacturers don't trust dealer techs to...
  16. Supra Development Thread - OEM+ Designs

Yea looks good. I assume the revisions will include closing the gap between the two pieces when fitted? Phil
  17. Opinion on buying a wrapped supra from a reputable dealer ?

Yea the original was too serious and political although I know where your politics is. Better keeping it to cars. Phil
  18. Opinion on buying a wrapped supra from a reputable dealer ?

Funnily enough I do love chocolate. Phil
  19. Oily threads on coilovers - an issue ?

New struts and both sides. Occams Razor would suggest no issues. Phil
  20. Opinion on buying a wrapped supra from a reputable dealer ?

Seems easy to me. Tell the dealer you will buy the car pending the removal of the wrap and the original paintwork is all good. Phil
