That was a different mindset on the mk4 where the car was made popular for modding because of it's stout drive train years after the car was released. Buying a new car with untested components and voiding the warranty right away sounds like a nightmare.

I agree 100%. When saying that, I am of the opinion that the Supra will have a S58 if Toyota builds the hybrid turbo and tech in the S58 which will be used in M3/M4/X3 M/X4 M models. Toyota gets a car, BMW gets tech and power to compete with AMGs, RSs, and Alfa Quadasomethings,
