It's probably too costly for Toyota to ship out any of their engines to Austria to be assembled in to the Supra. So all we'll probably ever see are BMW engines.
Don't know if this has been discussed. Journalist Peter Lyons is reporting that the A90's drivetrain will likely be identical to the BMW M240i debuting next year, because that matches what Tada told him about the drivetrain being inline 6, 340hp and 8AT...
Yes he did, somewhere. I can't remember where it's so long. But he said it's definitely happening.
When he developed the 86, he didn't think the car was gonna be so popular among tuners and be widely used in racing, so it's not that modification friendly. So that being a lesson learned, he...
I watched the interview.
MT is still under consideration, it's not dead. Tada's concern is that the next engine is very torquey, which is very hard to give a good shift feel to. He said that the 86 has a very good shift feel, so the Supra being its older brother, has to be even better. But it's...
I would translate the last two paragraphs of the blue section of that article as follows:
"Besides the suspension modifications, a 3 pedal MT is being prepared. Although Tada hinted that there would only be AT, because of strong market demand for an MT, the consideration/preparation for it has...

Btw, there's a user named x73 on Bring a Trailer where he posted in the current Supra TT auction that he's seen and sat in the new Supra, seems like in a focus group. I didn't know if I should link that page on here so just a fyi.
Well, he said that he never said there won't be an MT. But at Geneve, the MT fans mistook his words to mean that an MT is ruled out, so an uproar ensued (you can see he threw up his hands to describe the uproar @1:09:53). lol
My take away from the video is that an MT is still in consideration...
You'll have to give me time, but that MT part is really what matters. He also went on to say how Porsche offers MTs on some of its high end models and knows that the driving pleasure it gives can never be replaced.
I'm new to this thread so I don't know if it's been covered, but the supplied translation doesn't cover the part around the 1 hour 10 minutes mark.
There, Tada says, that the car is "coming soon," whereby it can be test driven. If at that time, the opinion is that an MT is still needed/desired...
I'll leave this here, another Tada san interview, in case it hasn't been posted yet.
