:D
The guy from CarBuzz states in the video that he was going to meet with some Toyota PR people the evening this drive was filmed. Doubtful that they will do more than placate his comments on this aftermarket manual MKV still in the fine tuning stages but still I hope someone on the Toyota...
I stumbled upon this Alfa Giulia QV manual swap thread (more an owner in CA asking questions about it) which I found very interesting since this is somewhat of a similar case to the Supra MKV using *any* regional variant's manual trans conversion parts. It would also relate to European Auto...
^^ Agreed. I'm just very interested in a stout factory 6-speed manual gearbox. The B58C is great already and the "horsepower bump" version (B58D?) should do plenty aside from the GRMN Supra.
Jeff, when they announced the new Century last year(?) I had read about the 5.0L V8 Hybrid but also that IF someone still wanted to order the V12 (and ordering a Century is already a tall order to begin with) it would still be available for now. Was this not correct?
Voiding the warranty of a first year Supra or any new model year Supra is a strong pause consideration for sure.
But it’s like a chicken and egg issue: no factory manual offered means the aftermarket EAG swap for $12k is currently the only option.
And that means you’d have to want to live with...
This is fantastic! Exactly what I’d hoped for from an aftermarket solution!
Now they just need to solve tuning all the bugs out of the ECU, give it a strong twin disc clutch and it will be set.
Everything else is just icing on top after that.
I hope Toyota takes notice. They should...
Toyota has at one time or another made just about every type of common passenger vehicle engine outside of a Wankel, inline-5, flat-12 or the unique W-configuration engines that VW Group has used in one form or another for years. They also currently make one V12 (for the the non-hybrid variant...
"Thinking Toyota"? I'm confused. What do you mean?
There is only one model year out yet and I assume at least nine more to go. You seem to have all the data, options and packages on all the A90 Supra model years mapped out until 2030 from the sound of things even better than Toyota does...
V6...? These cars don't have V6 engine options.
BMW announced a Z4 2.0T Manual variant for Europe only a couple of months back so there's that to begin with.
And if both companies do the wrong thing and don't release manual Supra and Z4 trim levels then that leaves the BMW M2C 6-speed M/T as...
I would not buy a Supra in California or at least within Los Angeles. I'd buy one out of state and the initial tax penalty to bring it in and register it would still be worth it. Easier if it can be kept somewhere out of state for just over a year from the time of purchasing it but that's not...
I’ve only owned manuals for over twenty years now and I’ve had to drive them in some of the worst rush hour traffic.
I still prefer manual transmissions over automatics on the street. Traffic sucks no matter what kind of vehicle or transmission you use.
Having a manual in a low powered car is...
With that DCT working in its favor the GT4 is going to be one hell of a competitive race car platform.
To that end, for the track warriors without $200k to spend on a non-road-legal car I assume this will not be the only A90 Supra we’ll see that 7-speed appear in ;)
I just saw another one at my local dealer today. A Premium I think. Black. I was told they had just received two others along with it. No LE’s left except one the owner of the dealer got for himself but decided he would sell.
Plenty of interest from others while I was there today...
^^ Personally I could care less for ugly family/"lifestyle" crossover CUV/SUVs over wagons/estates but they sell a lot for some confounding reason so given that and Ford working hard to deliver that formula as a full electric with 230-300 miles of range and 250-500+ horsepower in RWD and AWD...
^^ I'm very interested to know too, Jeff. If the GT4 is supposedly a test-bed for the GRMN's development and both it and the GRMN will be focused on maximum track performance then I'm leaning towards it being a reworked and reprogrammed existing DCT design. The ZF8 is an 8-speed and I do...
^^ This. For a factory variant Supra specifically aimed at racing it makes complete sense to offer a beefed up and retuned ZF8 8HP automatic and/or DCT... or even a sequential transmission. In the racing world today unless the specific racing class calls for all entrant cars to retain a...
You're not the only one focused on it at least. I'm not sure I believe it as predetermined fact but I do *expect* them to do this simply because the whole point of this fifth generation revival and focus was not to be an R35 rival but rather a spiritual successor to the A80, its reputation for...
I can only guess but regarding the manual pedal box, despite this announcement: https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/22/bmw-z4-manual-transmission-supra/
...has BMW actually gone about putting the reported Z4 2.0L 6-speed manual variant into production for Europe or did this fall by the wayside...
