Neither is true. You really need to read the development stories and interviews. This joint project resulted in a new co-developed platform to meet the needs of both BMW and Toyota. It wasn't like the Z4 was already in development and BMW asked Toyota if they wanted a reskin coupe version. If...

So Moto thinks the 4 cyl is coming to the US. I still think the I6 will be the more popular choice. Looking at the A80 the turbos almost outsold the NAs 2 to 1. I think the majority of buyers for the B48 will be a hand full of 86 owners, women, and people looking to do 2JZ swaps.

You guys already know how I feel about a 4 cyl Supra, but idk if I buy the argument that it will be a stepping stone for 86 owners. Assuming they price it at $50k; that is like double the price of the 86. It would be much cheaper and practical to just turbo charge the 86. This is just my opinion...

You could also add production and sales date. They did confirm production for Q1 and sales for Q2 of 2019.
